Exported projects have no sound

Hey all...For some reason when I export my projects and save them as a .wav file, the file will not play any sound on windows media player....It shows the length of the track but plays no sound. When I play the file on Cakewalk Music Creator 5, it works fine (sound and all)... I am using Windows Vista.....If anyone can help me out with this problem that would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeff

When you export the file, you must select (highlight) all the tracks you want included. There must also be at least ONE audio track in the project that gets exported. If it's 100% midi, you should render or BOUNCE to TRACK one of the synths.

    does that help?

Double check your export settings. Sample Rate should be 44,100  and Bit Depth should be 16.
MC5 can play 24 and 32 bit files, but WMP cannot.
Note: Some systems can play 24 bit files in WMP, if the sound card supports it, but many can't. Stick with 16 bit to be sure.
What is in the project you are trying to export?
MIDI tracks? Which synth(s) are you using?
You say you can play the file in MC5. Are you importing the wav file into MC5?

I do have the sample rate at 44,100 and the bit is 16...They are audio tracks that I'm trying to export....I also used Reaper to see if maybe it was cakewalk that didn't want to play the exported files but Reaper is doing the same thing...I imported the project as a wav file and it works fine on the program, just not on windows media player....I'm not sure why its doing this...When I had xp everything worked out fine....I have a gateway laptop with vista OS 32 bit, 2 gb ram, intel pentium dual cpu @1.60 ghz

When you highlight the tracks, do the tracks turn black?

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

Also, when I export, besides using 44.1/16 I also select the perset WHAT YOU HEAR as the choice.

Be sure the tracks turn black/darker, as Greg mentioned.... If not, it will not export the audio.

If it plays back in MC5, exporting it should result in a playable file.

Use an audio editor such as Audacity or Wavepad (both free) to check the file.

Thanks guys for all your help!!! I figured out the problem...Windows media speakers was set to my usb plugin... every time I saved the file, windows media would play the file through the usb plugin only for some reason....so I have to change the speaker settings every time I want to play my tracks....Kind of a pain but at least I can burn cds and hear the tracks now!!!!

    Thanks again,

with audacity... if you get the LAME plug in for it, you can use Audacity to convert waves to MP3.

The MP3 converter on Cake shuts off after 30 days and costs $20 to unlock so most of us use Audacity or some other converter.

I like to use the converters not only for the conversion to MP3, but also to normalize or increase the levels, as well as trim the beginning and endings of my projects.  The wave view window is also helpful in determining the compression levels in the final wave.
