Anyone using sonar 8.53 with AMD Cpu?

Hello I want to build a new computer but I'm on a small budget.
AMD processors are very cheap in comparison with Intel's, but I've read that they are not so powerfull with cakewalk products.
Can anyone give me some informations on this subjet?
Thanks a lot

maybe where you are but in the US an AMD phenom system is the same price as an Intel 760 system.

with that said the new phenoms are doing fairly well.
    older amd forget it.

    Thanks jcschild.
In France AMD are really cheaper, but I would like to know if its ok, otherwise it'll be a waste of money.

Running a home built here mate. AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition @ 3Ghz w/4gig ram on an ASUS M3N72-D SLI motherboard built originally for video stuff.

Now running SONAR 8.5.3 on it with no cpu usage issues at all.  IMHO: AMD makes a better product.

My Rig: Sonar X1 Studio - Vista 32 on AMD Quad Core @ 3ghz w/4 gig ram - Lexicon Lambda - Assorted Nuts, Bolts & Plugins - More Talent on order as well.

    Hello..
I'm running an AMD Phenom II X6 1035T with SONAR 8.5.3 with no issues at all.  But then again, I'm a home hobbyist.  Not pushing the system as hard as other here are.  But for my needs, it fits the bill just fine.  :)

Ok! Thanks for your answers. So even a phenomx4 would do the job.
I use sonar 8.53 PE with quite a few vst instruments (komplete from native-instruments) and some guitar tracks with guitar rig on them.
    Composing sometimes classical pieces too.
I work on wondows xp pro os (special version) wich loads only 92 MB.
I have an Intel core 2 duo E6300 (it's weak...) and 4GB ram.
    Making essentialy modern music.
    So that's it!
It seems to be that I'll manage that with a phenom quad.
Any other experience would be welcome!
    Thanks!

No... opinions, are a lot like as... ummm sphincters... everybody's got one and all including mine stink most of the time. You keep up with your facts and I'll keep up with what works well for me.... we're all happy. ;-D

big difference from opinion and fact
    here are the facts...
    benchmarks here bud
    http://www.adkproaudio.com/benchmarks.cfm

    2nd test down
    the 965 beats the 940.
965 is black @ 32 buffer 57 RXC plug ins
Intel 750 is dark green @32 buffer 104 RXC nearly double...

    you were saying?

now the new 6 core phenom 1090T can just about keep up with the 750.
however the 760 is now the same price.

being that a good mobo for either platform and the ram will be the same price it comes down to CPU price.

    1090T $295
    Intel 870 289
    1055T $199
    Intel 760  $208

so less money better peformance for Intel.

again not saying AMD does not work,
rather intel is faster and AMD is NOT less $
    so why bother

OK Thanks JC. I knew Intel's achitecture was better for DAW; but that's incredible for us in France: you only pay 208 dollars for an Intel 760?
Where do you find these prices (I have friends in Chicago)?

Sonar 8 PE was buggy in Vista, and is even worse in Win 7 so far. The program constantly has errors and shuts itself down. It won't even open some project files anymore.

Well I think that Sonar 8 PE was buggy in Vista, and is even worse in Win 7 so far. The program constantly has errors and shuts itself down. It won't even open some project files anymore.

What has this got to do with the title of this thread?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Yes. I bought the motherboard so it could overclock the CPU and memory.  But after I put it together with a SSD, I didn't see the need.  X1a is for the most part stable on this set up.  I do how ever have issues with 3rd party plug-ins freezing X1a and doing wierd crap because of the bit server issue.
Looked up the specs on every computer listed on Cakewalks website and didn't see what I wanted so built my own.  Very happy with 3-D gamming too.

My motherboard is the ASUS M4A89GTDPRO USB3
It has USB 3 and it supports SATA6 transfer speeds.

    Win7Pro64Bit-AMD-1090t -4 GIG OC DDR3-2k-GTX-465-C300 SATA6-SSD 64G-Sonar 8.5,X2a - Pro Tools Digi-001, a few Axon controllers

I have had great results and a very stable system with my AMD (see below specs)  I do push it hard sometimes and wished I had gone with an Intel when I first had it built, but I didnt know better at the time.
With that said,  I do not know what your needs are but your average audio projects do not make my system sweat.  I dont think I have had a pure audio project even come close, its only on the big orchestral projects where I am lacking in power.
Good luck on your search, I would definately look at benchmarks and compare pricing.  No use ending up like me, wishing you knew a little more when you built your system.

Anyone suggest a good MoBO for a Phenom BLack edition 1090T 6 Core?

you want an 890 FX chipset, 790 would be ok as well but the 890 has better HDD thruput and more robust.
