mgh yeah but turn the phantom power off... I think you mean turn it on if he's going from dynamic to condenser.

but don't unplug either mic without turning phantom power off. it probably won't hurt the dynamic one, but it could cause damage to the condensor if you plug or unplug while phantom power is on.

It would be pertinent to clarify that you sometimes find XLR to 1/4" unbalanced cables with some older or inexpensive dynamic mikes. So the proper cable for your condenser mike will be a balanced XLR to XLR cable. Just encase,,

Thanks guys. It seems that some already do, so i'm sure it's safe. The cable that i want to use is a Neutrik- Nobelle cable, and the one included in the condenser is just some plain cable that looks cheaply made from just looking at it, comparing the two (Or maybe i'm just dumb. Is the cable included with the M-Audio Nova better than what i have? It says "FST Microphone Cables"). They're both XLR to XLR.

I've always found cabling to be a bit of a minefield TBH. I've found some real good cheap cables, some really crap cheap cables, some really good expensive cables, and some really crap expensive cables. Not much help I know but that's my experience......... Try it and see is the easy answer. If it's well shielded and quiet it's good enough IMHO.

Simple test,,, turn up the gain and wiggle the cable and listen! If you hear crackles toss it in the dust bin. The other issue with cables is the shielding sometimes is not up to par. Go find a old TV set or monitor and put cable in front of the screen. Belden cable with switch craft ends. last forever. http://www.tweakheadz.com/all_about_cables.htm

Oh it's a fact alright. When I had my store a guy came in looking for new Pick ups for his Music Man bass. When I plugged in in to an Amp he was amazed at how good it sounded? I asked to see his cable, it was one of those coily jobs. That cable had so much capacitance it cut all his highs off. Like I say, most all my cables are Belden if I can find them.
