Maschine Templates. How do you integrate?

I just set up a quick template allowing me to record simple drum patterns within Sonar using  Maschines pads and browser to quickload drums sounds.

One folder with 8 MIDI tracks to record MIDI from pads 1-8, with each pad on Maschine having its own stereo output fed to one of 8 audio tracks in another folder.

I am probably gonna setup another, taking advantage of group outs as opposed to individual pads, but am also curious as to how you all are incorporating Maschine with Sonar. There are a bunch of ways of meshing the two; taking advantage of outs, groups, drag and drop MIDI and audio, and Maschines sequencer and keyboard mapping.

So how do you use it?

I made myself a template, I set up 8 midi  channels and 8 audio tracks in sonar and routed them into machines outs , I make my patterns in maschine with step sequencer , I drag and drop midi into sonar and audio.  I also record by the pads hit the pads or my keyboard it depend on the material. Thats How I use it in the studio.

My default "normal.cwt" is actually setup very much as you both do.
I only start with one MIDI track and add more as I go (though probably starting with more is wise since I ALWAYS add more lol) - and I setup 4 outs to start, add more as needed.

I basically record live from the pads as needed by whatever part I'm doing.  I don't mind the extra moment or two to setup another track where needed (or just clone one without the events).

Sometimes I use the Step Sequencer for fun, most of the time I just play the part - but I like to keep it flexibile.  Sometimes doing something I don't normally do opens up a different mindset at the moment.

But in all my templates - it's not just the synths/tracks, it's the busses I setup for quick starts.

I have a pretty regular bussing arrangement that allows good flexibility, but that also allows me to get things going very quickly if need be.

I have a track folder setup that has 16 tracks dedicated to Maschine. I have the tracks configured to receive audio from Maschine's 8 audio outputs. I then assign individual pads on Maschine to the 8 audio outputs, which I label as Kick, Snare, hi-hat, percussion, etc. This allows me to treat individual pads using VST effects and such from within SONAR.

When recording patterns, I create a loop in SONAR that is equal to the loop length that I want to record in Maschine and I then just let SONAR play. While SONAR is playing/looping you can basically use Maschine's sequencer just like it works in standalone mode. You can even jump in and out of Record mode on Maschine without having to stop SONAR. Once I get a pattern recorded that I like in Maschine's sequencer, I can then drag the audio for each pad (or groups of pads) from Maschine into SONAR's track view. Important note: Drag and drop audio only works for pads that are assigned to output to a 'Group'. If you setup your pads to output to individual outputs (like I mentioned above), you will need to temporarily reassign them to output to a Group or the audio will be silent when you drag it out of Maschine.

I have also figured out a way to sample audio from SONAR's tracks/buses onto Maschine's pads. It's actually pretty simple. You basically just drop a 'second' instance of the Maschine VSTi software into the effects bin of the track/bus that the audio is routed thru. You can then open the Maschine software interface and configure the software to record the audio coming into the track/bus. Once you have sampled the section of audio that you want, you can then simply copy/paste the audio from the second instance to original instance of Maschine. Using this method you can also route external hardware inputs thru Maschine to sample from things like mics, iPods, or you can even route your PC audio thru to sample audio playing on your computer.

It's amazing how similar we work.  And, yep - using the FX bin for the sampling function of Maschine is easy to setup and use.

    What a maschine LOL.

Anyone have the Maschine Control template for Sonar and Maschine? I am really interested to see how this works!
