Hi Norrie it would be best to track this down as a sound effect. I have got a big effects collection myself. I have done a lot of audio post for TV. I might have it and can send it to you. I assume do you mean 2 nd world war, Britian etc...I will check out my data etc and get back to you.

+1 everyone ... also: Here's a very simple ... but powerful ... Air-Raid Siren (which you can tame) ... via your (1) studio guitar and (2) a slider device (medicine bottle, porcelain/metal slider, etc.): 1) Set your studio guitar to a heavy distortion setting and/or some choice fx's (fuzz, cabinet, drive, heavy comp, heavy bass, etc.) 2) Practice sliding/listening on a string until you've got a surreal siren or 2 with multi-takes. I've done this with a Roland Cube amp as well as DI (with an Ax-Fx processor) with easy success. I'm confident you'll produce a siren of exceptional caliber, timbre, and potency (or whatever). In addition (after multi-takes) ... you can use Melodyne (or pitch correction software) to start on 'A' and end on 'A' and/or adjust the timing a bit. (Hope this helps you get that perfect fog-siren and/or raid-siren to command your song)

I did it years ago on a moog. I forget which wave form but I'd start with a sine or close to that - pure. Then assign a sine lfo, adjust speed and depth. Throw on some reverb and find the starting note that sounds right. I would think that would get pretty close - or close enough to capture the essence. There is the mechanical ramp up, but you can skip that and just fade in. Which synth? You could probably find the right sample in Dimpro. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Then automate the pitch envelope. This could be done in almost any softsynth (dimpro, rapture, z3ta+, etc etc). And you oculd then automate it in tempo as well.

Norrie, You can take a actual sample as suggested above and try making a groove clip out of it so that you can "sync" it to a kick or tom. It may work or it may start sounding warbly. Which may sound cool. best regards, mike

I do have one guitar with one of those Fernadez "infinite sustain" pickups. So using that in conjunction with a slide could be very interesting.

Around here, every first saturday at 1pm, all the sirens in the area do their thang. But, if you use a "imitation" use a couple of impulse samples: city streets,...
