Anyone using Ubetoo for getting it out there???
Just wondering... Sounds like a hell of a good deal to me. I mean, Itunes??? Amazon??? Sign me UP! From ubetoo.com: "Ubetoo Music Distribution Beta now offers you the possibility to sell your music on more than 500 online music stores! You keep the copyright to your work and earn a major part of the royalties! Yes, that's right, reversed roles compared with the classic record industry!" I don't use anything to get it out here. Mike?

I keep reading the FAQs and stuff, Craig... I just can't find anything terrible, like "You must live in Outer Mongolia" or "You will have no rights once you pay 29 Euro Fee"... that kind of thing... According to the sire, the artist/user hold the rights and there are no limits to amount of uploads and, well... I'll just copy and paste this bit: Royalties and subscription fees You can choose to subscribe on a yearly or half yearly basis. The subscription fee is automatically drafted from your charge/credit card every year or half year if you don’t choose to cancel your subscription. Subscriptions Start fee Subscription fee 6 months € 10,00 € 29,00 1 year € 10,00 € 49,00 Other fees Price ISRC code per track no fee UPC/EAN code per album no fee Upload fee per album no fee The money you earn from selling your music on both external music stores as well as Ubetoo Store, is called royalties. With Ubetoo Distribution your share of the royalties is 100 percent* up to €500 in total per month. All monthly royalties above that are shared between you and Ubetoo - you get as much as unbelievable 75 percent and Ubetoo 25 percent. In fact, we haven’t found any other label that could match that! * Hidden external fees and profits are deducted from your royalties by external stores before they are paid out to Ubetoo Distribution. 100 percent share refers to the amount paid out from the external stores. Royalties Ubetoo share Your share Royalties up to €500 /month no share 100% Royalties above €500 /month 25% 75% Some of our sales channels 8485 E-Plus Nokia Music Store 24/7 Entertainment Exlibris Q-Tom 3 Beat Digital Fast Forward Digital Rhapsody 7 Digital Finetunes RTL2 Aim4Music FNAC Saturn Alice Freenet Securycast Amazon MP3 HIP Digital Sony BMG AOL Hoerbie Spex AON Hörstern Spotify Arcor iMusic Sprint arvato mobile In2Movies Starzik Aspiro InProdicon Sunset Wireless Audible iTunes Swisscom Audio Jelly iTunes Plus TDC Basepoint Media Jamba! There also seems to be a free "Streaming" option - wherein you opt to upload your stuff, and the rest of it is kinda like Soundclick/others with ads and promotions and stuff that relies on Social Networking to get the word out. Seriously. I'll pay the money just to be able to say, "Hey. Yeah. I'm on iTunes..."

Which Itunes? I think Itunes is split up into regional stores. You may wish to confirm that it is not just Itunes Antartica. Have fun, mike

FWIW, I've been using TuneCore for a similar type service. It seems like this company is similar. I've enjoyed Tunecore... I haven't promoted anything so sales are almost non existent but they did get my stuff posted excatly where there said they would. So I guess I am advising that you compare some of the placement services. Best regards, mike

CD Baby also does digital distribution and streaming and some other non-traditional distributions. The fee was ridiculously low $35 to join another $10 for a bar code and maybe another $15 for digital, can't remember but it was definitely less than $75. They also let you keep the lion's share of the profit. Of course selling any music is a whole nother story, LOL.

This is a bit of a change from a few years back where it was hard as hell to get anything with less than a 1000 units already sold, a major label record deal, etc. on itunes. I got the pamphlet from CD baby and was thinking the same thing... JR

Craig, I think I'm going to let my Swedish friends/ collaborators finish up the album they are working on... I don't really have any solo stuff that's ready to be distributed. Hmmm...Actually, I think that one of my friends has already purchased his subscription... but I don't think he's posted anything. Will let you know how that goes when it happens. Might be awhile, thgouh.... JR - Paradigm Shift? Seems like it, anyway!!!

Jules, trying to sell my music is a waste of time and effort. I've had 26,674 plays 419 free downloads. That's from 17 tunes written, recorded and posted at Mix in a two year period and for the last 2 years I've added none. For about 6 months last year I changed a few for purchase only at $.75 and sold none. They are back to free download. Now there could be many reasons for that but it's of no matter as I make music for my enjoyment. I posted some of it for others that might share that.

In general (not aimed at the OP or any one person herein): Let's say for starters you have very well recorded outstanding songs ready for release, uploading songs to TuneCore and providing CD's for retail outlets is only the very first 'easy' step.... It might cost from $400 per month to have just one company (music publicist/promoter) target just one state, their job is to distribute the artist/band HPK, EPK and CD's to the media (Radio, TV, Press). Some companies will accept a smaller monthly fee as retainer + commission based on results. Others may simply offer consultation along with contacts for a small fee. Major labels have these people along with lots of excellent contacts working for them and can cover it 'nationally', whereas an indie label (depending on their staff, resources and contacts) most of them usually cannot compete well on such a national level thereby they focus/target one area at a time. NOT being able to compete on a 'national' level (as major labels do, and larger indie/major labels do) puts an artist/band behind the 8-ball = there's NO way to generate enough publicity and sales to get charted (example; Billboard charts), but at the very least it's a start considering the circumstances may very well attract major labels, indie/major labels interest. * Ooops, almost forgot to mention; it's also good to get out and perform live especially once the promo/publicity machine cranks up, no time to sleep in nor afternoon naps, hey you gotta keep that momentum rolling. Competition is fierce!! Google; 'Music Publicist', but finding a really good company that suits your budget will be difficult, if you do get lucky? you'll be on your way to success, urrrm hopefully! Good Luck! Wishing fellow music artists/bands great success! -
