Setup advice

Hi all,

I hoping to get some advice on setting up my gear in the correct sequence.  I have an Avalon U5, Presonus Eureka and Fast track Ultra 8R.  I also have various pedals, amps, etc...  I wish to record my guitar or bass through the above equipment and also use my amp sims.  Which one of these sequences makes the most sense:

Guitar/Bass->Avalon->Fast Track->mic in front of amp->Fast Track

or

Guitar/Bass->Avalon->mic in front of amp-> Fast Track

Also should the Eureka go after the Avalon?  Any advice is appreciated as using outboard gear is totally a new thing for me.  Thanks.

    If you're going for the cleanest audio recordings, take the shortest possible signal path.

    The U5 is a high quality DI box/Instrument preamp.
    You should have plenty of gain for recording passive electric guitar/bass without sending the U5's output thru another gain-stage (preamp).
    I'd go straight from the U5 to the FastTrack with nothing in-between...

    Thanks for your reply Jim.

    Sorry but I am still a bit unclear.  I get the Avalon to Fast Track part.  You mean then go from Fast Track to for example SM57 in front of amp and then back to Fast Track to record live?  Or you mean record the signal as above and then reamp it later?

    You could use the speaker level input on the DI to plug your amp right into the DI box.  ok you're missing the speaker sound, but you're still getting all the colouring from the amp and its output stages.  You must still connect a speaker to your amp though.

    Bass > Amp > Avalon > Fastrack
