Can't get audio without sizzle sounds
Hi, I've recently got Sonar 8.5.3 and I set it up with a clean install of windows 7 32-bit. I have an M audio delta 1010lt sound card. I want to run my keyboards and guitar thru my mixer and into my soundcard and record but my audio keeps making a digital sizzle noise. I currently got the sound card set on 44100KHz and the ASIO/WDM buffer size at 64 because a lot of the higher buffers crash the audio engine. I'm using WDM because when I use ASIO it won't ever open the ASIO panel to let me make changes. I get the same results on both though. My computer is 3.2 GHz single core intel, 2GB Ram. Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be??! I've been varying the latency in the Audio dialog box to no avial...

Your computer is marginal at best for running Windows7 and Sonar. ASIO mode should work with the Delta1010 so perhaps you don't have the latest drivers. Download them from the M-Audio site. I would set the buffers to 256 not 64. You should be able to get latency of 5.8 msec. You may be able to get it to work, but the performance will be poor and you will be limited in the number of audio tracks, effects and softsynths you will be able to use per project.

This 'sounds' like a clocking issue to me - what are the clocking options for the 1010? make sure your clock source is appropriate - and - do your windows sounds (dings and start up, ect) make the same noise? -D

I changed it back to ASIO and set the buffer to 256 samples. I checked my M audio driver and it says 5.10.0.5074, which is weird because I keep installing Delta_6.0.2_5.10.0.5074 I guess it is the same thing but it works so I'm guess thats not the issue. I keep the clock options on internal. There are internal, external-spdif, and external-word clock. I've never messed with that stuff before. I can upload a sample of the sounds if that would be beneficial.

Post your example on sound click or something, so we dont have to download a strange file. soundclick.com is free checked my M audio driver and it says 5.10.0.5074, which is weird because I keep installing Delta_6.0.2_5.10.0.5074 That doesn't sound right. Check to make sure the the right drivers for the correct windows and architecture (64 or 32) Cj

I ran a lot of windows 7 optimizations like disabling unneeded services and stuff but even that did not help. idk. Anything else I can try?

Update your pc. 2 gigs of ram isnt nothing for win7. size at 64 because a lot of the higher buffers crash the audio engine A 64 ASIO buffer may be too low. Even if you say it crashes when you raise it. It should not crash and here is a huge problem. Until you solcve this crashing, you may fix it,. Hight ASIO buffer, like 128 or 512 do not crash audio engines! Unless there is an error in your soudn card drivers/config Whats your reocridng and playback I/O buffers set at? Make sure there at 256 or 512 for now I ran a lot of windows 7 optimizations like disabling unneeded services and stuff but even that did not help. idk. Anything else I can try? There's really no need to do that with today's pc's. Just make sure your Wireless is disabled and any networks.

Yea, I've set my ASIO/WDM up to 256 now and its not crashing the audio system now. I think my ram is good for this system because I've run sonar with this machine before in W7, but it was regular version 8. I would actually get some more ram but this computer is kind of old and won't support anymore. The playback I/O buffers are set to 128. I'm really concerned that I cannot open my ASIO panel. When I click on it, it does nothing and never opens. I would like to get it open to make more adjustments. I've got 3 TBs available on this machine. I was going to experiment with Read/Write Caching. Does anybody think that might help?

I have the 1010LT and am running Windows 7 with the latest M-Audio driver and periodically get the same dreadful sound that you have on your "crackle" recording . On my system, usually the "crackle" gets introduced onto an audio track when I record something. Is it that way for you? I haven't exactly figured out what the deal is, but it seems to happen more when I try to record a new track in a project with lots of existing audio tracks [maybe the system has to work harder?] If I start a brand new project with just one audio track then sometimes I can record without the "crackle". I hate this silly 1010LT card. It's really not lovin' Windows 7. Luckily I am set up for dual-boot, and can boot into Win XP to record. On my system (for whatever reason), the 1010LT runs very nicely in Win XP. Don't think I ever get any crackle there! -john

Thats kind of the same for me. I get the crackle on new recordings. But it is definitely better in xp. I believe they have better drivers for the xp. M audio got bought out by another company I believe. I'm not sure. I think the quality of support is slipping in that department.

You may not have installed your soundcard properly. At the very least you should be able to open the ASIO panel from the Windows Control Panel or the Windows Device Manager.

I have everything connected and I am running 2 (two) Audiophile 2496 with the x64 drivers (same drivers as yours) Guess it all boils down to your PC and what it can handle all at once.

Here's what your "crackle" looks like up close. It is a classic case of dropouts while recording, and as you discovered is often caused or exacerbated by hardware interrupts combined with too-small input buffers. 64 samples is really too small for your computer unless there are absolutely no other processes vying for the CPU's attention.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

i have Win xp 32 with sonar 7 pro and 4 m_audio delta [ cards runnin at the same time.. I have also had the same problem you have had.. The problem is in the [ driver... M_audio changed something after driver Version 5.10.00.0051. Any newer driver created after this one will cause the electric sounding static you r talking about.. I have since downgraded to the 5.10....0051. version over a year ago and have had no problems. If you want a download of the driver let me know.. I was also told the same thing youve been told ...IRQ, bios, grounding issues. The only way to fix it is downgrade driver... and as it is 12/2010. I recently checked to see if M_audio had fixed it with new drivers.. But no.. the new ones do the same.... Eric West EvoRelease Studio Italy TX, 76651 ecwest97@yahoo.com

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm hoping it is not my machine. I just purchase an I7, 2.80 GHz with 9GB Ram. I am getting the same crackles during record. If I turn echo off and back on again, it will play cleanly for about 10 second and the the crackles re-appear. I tried everything suggested here and nothing works. I'm now in the process of looking for Delta 1010 driver version 5.10.00.0051 to see if that helps. Has anyone figured this out? Thanks, Jim
