I suppose if you use the ProChannel on the master bus, it will be a mastering tool. :-)

And even better still on Wavelab 7. But the point is at least they're giving something for free for those that don't have anything.

Unless there are more details to be announced...trying the X1 demo when its released would probably be the best way to really assess it properly. All we have to go on at this point are the videos and website info. For me the new UI is a very big deal. I really did not like the older UI. It was consistently picked up by mags as a negative. It looks far better now and appears to be much more than a new design. But again a good deal of time spent with the X1 demo is likely the only way to know for yourself if you should upgrade.

Considering how long it took to get the SONAR 8 demo and none at all for 8.5 I wouldn't be holding my breath to get my hands on that X1  demo anytime real soon.

As for what's in X1 or going to be we can only speculate other than what we've been told officially.

Brandon's video done while visiting SSL (I think) showed clearly how he just kept reiterating how the new workflow was really great. no hint of new features other than that and the Pro Channel.

Indeed there is no 8.5 demo AFAICT only 8.0. Still I would be surprised if the bakers did not release a demo for X1.

I master in sonar with great results. I do use third party plugins.

I really have never needed to redraw waves or crazy intricate stuff liek that.

I had a record mastered at Bernie Grundman's studio and they certainly didnt do any of that either.

Byt the way, the label liked my mastering better than theirs on that record, which I was shocked by. (after listening o theirs, honestly I liked mine better too-their mastering was way too "safe", tapered highs like crazy).

Anyways, mine was all done in sonar 8. something (not 8.5) ;)

We've been told many times that the info release as of this date (11/11/10) is just pre-release stuff.  No one knows _yet_ what will or won't be in Sonar X1.

So I don't see how anyone can really answer the question without full info available.

you have the linear phase plug-ins with sonar which sound good, but the lp 64 eq is still not sorted (i.e sound cutting out when tweeking parameters)which is the reason why i bought ozone (which isn't a bad thing) you'll get by with the lp 64, but have said numerous times on here that i would like to see the bakers sort this out once and for all, can write and code a whole app but cant sort a plug-in, c'mon

hmmm, maybe sound cutting out is more to do with sonar's engine, as it seems to be ok in other hosts; at least, i can tweak parameters/nodes without audible glitches...
