Hey Greg, is has a catchy chorus.  Only a couple thoughts-
    1) If you could get Neil Young to sing this it would be a complete winner! (Very Neil Young sounding)
    2) The breaks are a tad too long of empty space...the first one made it unpredictable but the other two were like awkward silence on your first date when the conversation was going great!

Of course, these are my lowly opinions, take them or leave them.  Nice job on the song I dug'ged it

I like it Greg.... I was a big fan of Neil Young..... and this reminds me of his music in so many ways.... (that's a compliment!)

I do agree with LPMike on the breaks of silence. Fill them with something... if only an echo..... I guess the last one was the end of the song!

good song.  Vocals fit the tune.  Neil Young is a great songwriter but not my favorite vocalist!  Of course I find myself singing along with his tunes.  It works because I'm not my favorite vocalist either!  The vocals seem a little "mushy" in the mix but the vocal quality ,IMHO, fits this song to a tee.

    Hi Greg,

THe song works and vocals are okay too but maybe a smidge of short but thick reverb on the voice.  Drums are kind of buried .

Hey Greg- Cool tune... I liked it.  I'm with Warren's Neil Young comments.  I think the song definitely has some potential, and the vocals were not so bad.  Maybe if you keyed this down a few steps you'd have an easier time with it.  Add some compression and a little verb on the vox, and you'll be good to go I think.

Mike, do you have his number?
"Very Neil Young sounding"; I'll take that as a complement.
Thanks for listening, Herb. Yeah, the breaks are now unbroken, but not in the way you might imagine.
Warren, I couldn't find the demushifier plug in, but I did a little EQ, not my stong suit given my bad hearing. I wonder how that happened?
No How, I raised the drums a smidge and added a little reverb to the lead vox. I have trouble adding 'verb, because when it's at a level I can hear it, a lot of folks say I went too far. Nevertheless, more reverb.
    Thanks for listening, Phil.
    New version up 11-14.

Big ol' guitar sound you have here Greg, I like it. Catchy song too, I kind of agree with Phil, if you took it down a step you might strain a little less, although that 'worried' vocal does suit the song.

I love this song - very catchy with some really nice guitar work.  I agree with the comments about the breaks, just need a little echo or something to fill the black silence.  Great tune, and I think your vocals fit the song well.

Nice rocker.  Great guitar-based song - had me toe-tapping for sure.  Nice solid drum work and fits the song to a T.

I liked the second break, too - tho the talkover in the 3rd didn't do it for me.

Also the backing vox - I'd just sing them myself (or have you sing them, you really don't want to hear me sing).  The high register seemed a little out of place.  And/or put them back farther.

    Hi Greg,

Nice song! I've been a Neil Young fan since his Buffalo Springfield days

and your voice, guitar sound and song structure remind me of him (as others

    here have noted).

    Cool stuff.

    Hey Greg,
Chunky guitar riffs and a catchy hook, whats not to like.  I like your vox on this but the harmonies singing the hook are a awesome touch.  Really nice structure flow into the guitar solo. GREAT piece!

    Re:Another Song 2010/11/08 22:50:11 (permalink)
SMB, thanks for listening. I started this song without any words or lyrics, just a chord progression. When It came time to sing it, I realized that it was out of my range. I posted it here, asking if anyone wanted to sing it, but no one wanted to take it on.
So I changed the melody to a lower register, but it's still a little high. I was worried my voice would crack!
Thanks, Duane. The black silence is now filled. Glad you liked it.
AT, I appreciate your kind words.
The drums... my first song using MIDI patterns, from SD 1, played through SD 2. Funny, the info on SD 1 says that the patterns were created by real drummers. They must have been 3-armed drummers because there are several places where the snare hits during a tom roll.
I bought Vocaloid Miriam so I wouldn't have to sing any more than necessary.
geeare1, thanks again. Being compared to Neil, one of my favorites, is great.
"Neil Young meets The Stones". BIABdude, thanks. An earlier song of mine, Waiting For The Light To Change was likened to Neil Young meets Pink Floyd by a listener. I'll try Neil Young meets The Beatles next.
Thanks for listening, Kev. Glad you like it. "Chunky" and "catchy", two words that should go together.

cool greg, nice to see that block seems to have lifted! nice guitar tone and drum sound. i empathise with the vocal situation, i don't have a great voice either so one resorts to all sorts of fx to hide it! at least in my line of music you can get away with growling or screaming!

I reckon BIABDude had it right with a mix of Neil young and the stones.

This does sound quite a lot like him and your vocal style is a bit similar.

I'd like to hear the vocals dryer with just a hint of reverb as i think they would fit in the mix better.

Overall it's a good classic rocker that had my head bobbing.

Astonishing performance-driven pomp and message; IMHO!  A profound sketch indeed!

    A++++++++++++++++

Another pop studio version, sample-driven, might perhaps have separate tracks, tunings, compression, and layers.  I speak as a mixing person.  I don't know your goals with this excellent vibe.
