What kind of keyboard should i get for sonar 7 XL

with xmas around the corner im trying to figure what i should get. I'm pritty new at useing Sonar 7 and makeing music keyboard wise (im naturally a guitarist) but i have prior experience with working with DAWs. Anyways im wanting to get a keyboard that works well with Sonar (im guessing a midi one) and so i dont need to use the PRV to make my music. Ive been looking at the M Audio Oxygen 49 but im not sure how well it works with sonar. so any suggestions or advice for a keyboard between $100-$200 would be awsome.

I just bought a M-Audio 88es Keystation a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I love having 88 keys at my disposal so I can get the most out of my sound sample programs. It works great with Sonar 7XL, I know because that's what I have too.  I got mine at Guitar Center for $199 plus tax. It plugs into your computer's USB port, and Sonar finds it automatically. You do have to enable it, but that just takes a second.

After playing this board, I hope I never have to go back to a 49 or 61 note keyboard !!

I'd say try one out before buying if you can find one somewhere close.

You should get a midi-capable keyboard.

Sonar, Les Paul Studio, FTU, puter, plugs.........

I literally just got back from Guitar Center and brought back the Oxygen 49 instead of the KeyRig or KeyStation 49 (88 keys is just too big for my use). I found the synth action to be a little better on the Oxygen. GC has an online coupon for 10% off $99 or more for this weekend, that paid my Washington sales tax. I have a couple of weeks use to confirm my choice.

I don't know if the same offer is available at your local GC store, but here they are running a 20% off special on a single item $199 or more, so you could get the Keystation 88 for about $160.

    A few thoughts on this.
The vast majority of emulated instruments do not use more than 49 keys. Most don't even use that, and you will find dead keys at both ends of the keyboard. It has to do with the natural range of a given instrument. Piano notwithstanding.
I have been using an Edirol PCR-M50(predecessor to the current A-Pro 500) for a few years. It has been extremely rare when I felt limited by the 49 keys.
For synth work, I much prefer a synth action keyboard, as opposed to weighted keys. It's much easier to play, say, a violin, and get into the mindset of a violin, if your keyboard doesn't feel like a piano.
This is, of course, entirely personal, but it works for me.
I think the Oxygen would serve you well. You might want to look at the A Pro 500 also. More expensive, but I think a slightly better build quality. I thrash my Edirol, and it's still tickin'.
Any of them should work fine with SHS7.

If you're coming from a guitarist perspective then a smaller keyboard should do fine.

I agree with what Robert suggested; the A-Pro 500.

As for me, I have both guitarist and 'extensive' piano background, so unfortunately more expensive road for a larger semi-weighted 88 note keyboard for me.  Darn it I wish Edirol would make a Pro 88 semi-weighted keyboard!!
