How do I speed up a piece of music?

Hello!  I have Music Creator 4.  I imported a song to edit and cut, but I need the entire piece to be faster.  How should I go about that?

Is it audio or is it a midi song?

It's audio.  I bought it as an MP3 on line.

Not alot you can do in MC to speed up an audio song.

There is a piece of software here that might help you out. Get the demo for free and try it. It might not sound exactly the same but it does allow you to change the tempo and key.

as long as you're not to picky about the results this thing will work.

Doesn't MC have the Time/Pitch Stretch feature?

I'm pretty sure this feature is included in MC but it may not be.

Highlight a clip (in part or the whole clip in the track if you want to apply the change to the whole track).

Go to Process > Audio Fx > Cakewalk > Time/Pitch Stretch.

When the window opens select the settings tab and reduce the number in the Time% field from 100% to a percentage number of the beats you need. (The smaller the number the faster the song will play because you're reducing the amount of time that you're allowing the clip to play, therefore it will need to play faster to be able to finish within the newly reduced time that you set.)

Leave the Pitch settings set to 0 unless you want to change the pitch.

It will take a couple of minutes for the effect to process so you'll need to be patient.

Doesn't MC have the Time/Pitch Stretch feature?

Hey, that worked pretty well for me with SONAR HS 6. I imported a little audio clip and reduced it's length by 20% and it sounded pretty good. No noticable artifacts, no pitch problems or stuttering.
So, sod, if MC 4 has that, you should get decent results.
I found it by selecting the audio track (it will turn black when selected) then going to the top, Process>Audio Effects>Time/Pitch Shifter 2.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

You can make  your audio file a "groove clip" by right-clicking  it and selecting groove clip looping. You can adjust the speed by adjusting the overall bpm, for instance change 120
to 140 to speed it up.

Maybe I should remember this the next time I finish a song that is 4:08 in length. My co-writer doesn't like anything over 4:00 in length..... something about radio stations don't like to play songs longer than 4:00 in length due to programming requirements..... so I'll squeeze it to 3:59 using the time stretch/shrink and see how that works.
