First post!

First of all Hi. First post.

Should really have come on here a long time ago as there seems to be a wealth of useful info.

I'd love any feedback on my latest song which is on my myspace.

Its called "Here comes the thunder" and is the first song on the player www.myspace.com/davechrisp recorded on Sonar 8. Drums done on Ez drummer and strings done with Edirol orchesteral. The Vox and guitars are all me.

I'm still learning the whole home recording thing, this is all just me on here and I know there are a lot of things I should be doing differently.
The other songs on there are older and of varying quality!

Looking forward to going though and listening to everyone elses work.

    Interesting.

The mix sounds a little bass lite, kick sounds buried but the snare is a little forward in some places.  Perhaps some selective EQ to isolate the bass and kick from each other.  Not sure of the vocal effect on vocal all the way through.  JMT

Hi, Dave! Great tune, love the tight harmonies. I agree with Wookie, the low end could come up a bit, but it's acceptable where it's at now. There is a fair amount of distortion in there on the vox, though. Maybe that's intentional, or maybe it's overly-aggressively limited, I don't know. Did I say it's a really good tune?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Very impressive, love the song!  I like the punchy kick drum.  Your harmonies are awesome.  The accents at 1:49 at 1:51 are really cool.

great tune sounds very original. vocal work is awesome, as is guitar playing. the whole thing is prob a bit hot and distorted because of it. don't like the snare sound!

    +1 on all mgh says.

The snare is really lacking for this style of track. It needs more snap and punch.

That said, i thought this was really good.

    Hi Guys, thanks again.

I totally agree it was definately recorded to hot. And yeah there is a bit of distortion on the vocal, I was finding it was struggling to get over the backing a bit so pushed it a bit too much.

The lack of bass is probably due to a poor choice of bass too, I just use a fingered bass synth but it's not the best. I know i'd be better playing some real basic bass but I'm lazy!

I'll have to have a play with Ez drummer and try and get a punchier sound.

    Hi Dave,

Crits about vocal distortion, snare drums, etc aside...

This is great! Love the song and the harmonies.

    Yeah, what he said !

I listened to this a few days ago and thought I'd already commented here, but seems not unless my post went for walkies in cyber space. I wouldn't call the snare offensive as it is, but I agree that it could be better. The chimes sound tacked on the end seems superfluous too, but that'd just me being picky. Just my opinions as a listener.

Thanks again everyone. I'm certainly going to address that snare on my next recordings!

My recording everything too hot must account for why I usually struggle to get my vocals at a decent level over the backing. I pretty much always double them up too.

Really appreciate everyone taking the time to listen.

This sounds great!!! I like how this song builds into the main part. You've got a great voice btw, and I liked everything about this tune.

    You should post more!
