Recording effect automation on a clip

Anyone know if this can be done, and how?  I can record automation on an effect inserted into a TRACK with no problem.  But when I insert the same effect on a CLIP (in a different track), it won't record automation.
Thanks!

C'mon, guys!  Surely this isn't that difficult or offbeat a question!

Just to rephrase it:  Automation of an effect inserted in a TRACK works fine.  Automation of an effect inserted in a CLIP simply doesn't take.

    Thanks again!

Because your probably using track envelopes and not clip envelopes. Those effects may also not have clip automation.

If your using envelopes, then just insert the effect in the track and automate it so it effects just that one clip. For reasons listed above. I do it like that all the time in mixing.

    Thanks for the reply, CJay.
I'm using a clip envelope, not track.  And the effect (Sonitus EQ) seems to have clip automation: after the effect is inserted in the clip, it appears as a clip envelope option (below 'Gain' and 'Pan'), and displays all the tick-box options for its parameters.

Inserting the effect in the track, as you suggest, works fine, of course, but then the effect is active throughout the entire track, which I don't want.  Is there a way to activate it when it comes to the clip and deactivate afterwards?

    Again, I appreciate your expertise.

No, but you can set the envelopes to be at zero gain before and after your clip, which is pretty much the same as bypassing it completely

    Actually that's completely wrong.

If you only have the Fx on your CLIP, it willl only apply during the time that the clip is playing - it will have no effect either before or after the clip.

I'm sure the suggestion in Bristol's first post will work, though it seems a bit cumbersome workaround.
Re his second post:  the effect works fine when inserted in (and only in) the clip, and is active only during the clip. The problem is that if you try to automate that effect - even though all the options to do so appear on screen for this particular effect - the recording of the automation doesn't take.  And as I stated in the original post, that same effect when inserted into the track, rather than in the clip, automates just fine.

So put the clip on another track for now to get the effect you want.

Send in a bug report to CW if you want to see the issue addressed in a future update.

Fred - instead of recording your clip automation, have you tried just drawing something in to see if it works?
