you seem to have most all that you would need to record music. The only other thing not mentioned would be a good sound card... better than the one the factory installed in the computer before they sold it to you. Aside from that... it's just a matter of learning the song and starting to record it one track at a time. You might want to look into getting some sort of midi keyboard that allows you to record midi info that can be used to trigger drum synths and the like. BUT: If you are brand new to this take it ONE STEP AT A TIME. Get the recording rig working first, and record your vocal and guitar to a click track. Tell us just how far you have gotten on your own.

Starting off with SONAR is going to be tough unless you ignore all the gizmos it has and just record. As far as I know, there are no private classes, but there are a lot of videos you can watch at the Cakewalk website (on YouTube). Basically, you set up a drum or click track to keep time to, then record your guitar on another track, vocals on another, etc. Where are you located? Lots of community colleges offer recording technology classes, some even use SONAR. Have you tried recording anything?

As Greg said: there are lots of ready to watch SONAR video's on youtube that Cakewalk has made to help you learn. Start here and explore >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg_1dDUBry4 even the cakewalk site has educational video's right here >>>> http://www.cakewalk.com/P.ducts/SONAR/default.aspx take your time, look around the cakewalk site and explore all the many video's on youtube. The education is there if you are willing to watch. You can watch the video's over and over until you learn the stuff..... I would have your studio open and do the things in the lessons and the video's. THEN....after watching the videos....if you have a specific question, feel free to come here to the music creator forum and ask that question. Then, people will be willing to help. Really, this is something that you must learn, and with all the resources available online, there is no reason to not use it. Hope this helps to point you in the right direction to get started.

ntvh Would you teach me? Well, I live 2,213 miles from you. I don't have SONAR 8.5 Producer, although the basics of most recent Cakewalk DAW software are the same. There is a lot to learn and most of the information is in the Help files and online videos. There is also a Getting Started sub-forum in the SONAR S&PE forum. Lots if info out there and many folks willing to help with specific problems you might have along the way. But few people have the time to spend many hours teaching everything about a subject to a new user. If you encounter a problem, feel free to ask for advice here. I suggest you go through the Getting Started section of the Help file, read up a little on audio and MIDI recording and think about getting an audio interface designed for recording. If you plan on using SONAR PE with your onboard computer sound card, you will probably have a lot of problems. Go to Beagle's web site for some audio interface suggestions. Both Guitarhacker and I use Focusrite Saffires, but there are a ton of excellent audio interfaces that will give you good service, names like M-Audio, PreSonus, E-Mu, MOTU, Roland/Cakewalk. Have you tried recording anything and what were the results?

One of the best ways to learn is by actually recording something. Then, get a page on sound click ( www.soundclick.com ) it's free..... then upload the song and post it in the forum asking for people to listen and comment. Ask the people what they think and what can you do to improve and what specifically can you do to make it better. People will give you pretty good advice there.
