Problem with bass pickup

I have a 1970s Fender Musicmaster bass (short fretboard).   Does anyone know of a pick up specifically designed for the bass?  Most of the pickups seem to not want to fit into the pickguard or they do not align under the strings (E string magnet directly under the string, get to the G string and it is almost half an inch off)

Did you try Google for info about the musicmaster bass?

Wikipedia has the full monty on where and why of this instrument.
The pickup for this bass was a six pole guitar pickup just put under a cover so you couldnt see it was a 6 and not 4 pole. The whole guitar was produced from left over six sting guitar parts and a few bass parts -  tuners, bridge and fretboard.  Try EMG, DiMarzio or Musicians Friend  web sites or find a guitar tech at most any music store (Not Best Buy).

Bought a Hartke Kickback 15, sounds good, tho, I need to "shield" the bass electronics.  Getting some feedback, when I touch the strings it goes away.
