A 500 Pro Problem with DC IN Jack

Hello everybody
I bought a A 500 Pro and wanna use that NOT with USB, but with normal "DC in" with my other hardware.
So, I use a normal switch mode power supply and plug it to the DC jack of the A 500 pro.
I turn it on... and the display starts to glow orange... BUT there is no text in the display.
Nothing... its completly empty.
What do I have to do the get it startet? Shouldn't I see some menu?
Thanks a lot
Oliver

I was hoping the USB port would power up the A-500 for normal operation - i.e. to control an outboard Novation Nova synth, to save me not just the purchase of another power supply but carting it around as well. However, the A-500 will only send to the USB cable when switched to USB and will only send to the midi out when switched to the DC input.
I realised that I can use my Roland drum kit power supply to power the keyboard, but carrying round another charger lead is a pain.
Having said all that I'm well happy with the keyboard, lovely bit of kit.

By the way Hi everyone, I'm a newbie too.
