If Our Music Sounds This Good On 8.5, We Can't Wait To Hear It With X1!

Just finished some some songs with Sonar 8.5 and I think the sound quality sounds fantastic. Each song is sounding better and better as we learn what we are doing. We are really jazzed about X1 and we are looking forward to starting a new journey into music making. We finally feel that our studio is not what's holding us back anymore, now it's up to the music we make. And that's a good thing. So give my friend Jonny a listen, and see what I mean. Whether you like the particular music is secondary, but I hopy you enjoy the sonic goodness. (again, we are still learning this, so I know there are certain glitches still there)

Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading your opinion!

Nice tunes. I listened to What About Me, Every Time, and Bedroom Eyes.
Strong, punchy mixes to be sure.
Don't mean to be negative, but maybe too much of a good thing?
There is a consistent brittleness to the vocals in particular that is kind of fatiguing to listen to.
The tracks are translating here with way too much high end energy.
Other than that, everything sounds tight, clean, and well defined.
Hope that's not a bubble buster. You have a good sound here, it just need to be softened up a bit, imo.

Hey Robert! No bubble buster here. Your opinion is why I posted them here.

Thanks for the reply. Thanks for listening and for the advice.

Hey – good, solid material. I found the recordings to be pretty damned good as well but I do agree there’s a bit of high-end “something” that’s a bit distracting and it takes away from the listening experience. Love the arrangements and performances – really very, very good. High quality writing. Enjoyed it a lot.

nice songs. like the guitar interplay too. I agree about the highs. Too much. Just cause you have a bunch of plugs, doesn't mean you have to use them:) I'd say mellow out on the voc effects and eq boosts. I rarely boost much eq these days. If you want more highs, cut the lows.

Hey Jonny- Good stuff, and I think the "too toppy" message already landed, so no need for me to repeat.  I only had time to listen to pieces of several songs, but it all sounded good: great voice, exclellent performances and solid material.  I thought the horns on What About Me were maybe a bit much for the genre, but that could be taste as much as anything else.

The tune that really pulled me in, and wouldn't let me go was 'I Don't Dream No More.'  I went the distance on that one... really strong material, and very well performed.  To my aging ears the toppiness was not quite as noticeable on this one.  Just one suggestion here- you got that poor banjo out there and barely audible for me... bring that guy up and let him play with the guitars

Thank you everyone! I guess I REALLY need to check into those highs. I think we might have the Isotope Ozone pumping a bit too much.

Yeah the horns were alittle out of place I agree, but it was fun to do.

Oh and by the way I'm just the MixMan, Jonny's the artist at large.

I also agree we need "More Banjo!"

Thanks again to all who listened.

just noticed your mention of Ozone. I don't get what all the excitement is over this plug. Seems like everyone around here loves it. I don't, so far. i dunno, I feel like I'm missing something but it just doesn't do it for me.
it's just not as transparent as I would like I think.

    Just sayin...

Listened to What About Me... solid production there. Nice mix too. Can hear just about everything clearly in a fairly dense production. Backing vocals sound great. One criticism I have is the lead vocal -- I think it could come up 3dB or more... the guitars really dominate the vocal, IMO.

RE: horns... I actually like the horns in this style of crossover tune, but maybe they come in too early... I mean they're right there in the intro. Saving them for the first chorus might make them more impactful. Plus to me they're a bit on the synthetic side.... to much unison, etc. That's more of a production decision though...
