SONAR 7 and Focusrite Saffire 6
I just got my new Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. The issue I’m having is, and I’ve got everything in the driver and settings telling the Saffire to operate in 16-bit 44100, that when I try to play an older SONAR file with audio tracks (originally recorded in 16/44100) in it, I get: "Unable to open audio playback device. Device may not support the current project’s audio format or may be in use." Then it gives a pointer to Cakewalk help, but there’s no help. Help! I'm running SONAR 7 Producer in VIsta 32. New projects/audio work fine. TIA

popmidi - If you're using the drivers that cam with your Saffire, they are probably already out of date. I've updated my driver and Mix Control software probably 5 times since I purchased my Saffire. Might be worth checking for updates.

Hello. Once you have the new drivers, go to audio options in sonar and open the asio control panel and set the buffer length to 10 ms as a starting point. (You may be able to do this outside the program also by going to your start - all programs - focusrite -control panel.) Then try playing back what gave you the error. If still a problem try raising the buffer length. OTOH, if it works at 10ms, try lowering in decrements of 1 and see how low you can go. Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I have the audio options in my OS (windows 7) set to the same settings as within Sonar, i.e. 16 bit - 44.1 kHz sample rate. Hope this helps. Steve

I had this with an Edirol UA-25 which I was given earlier this year. I was using a Terratec DM6 Fire -. Got the same message. Got so fed up with it that I tried taking out everything related to the Terratec and wiping clean the drivers .. the result was it still wouldn't work with the old songs so I gave up with the Edirol and re-installed the old Terratec. This is why I haven't upgraded anything hardware - can't take the risk.

Oops - The Windows version is 1.8 and it's just below the Mac driver.
