All Rapture used for Devo What We Do remix contest

Hi all!!

My wife and I were recently fortunate enough to purchase the Rapture/Dimension Pro bundle and have entered our first remix contest using it.

For anyone interested, here's the link to our work. Drums are external loops but ALL of the synth in the track is the Rapture that we are enjoying so VERY much!!

Here's the link: Devo - What We Do (Meme Remix)

Devo have always been very tongue in cheek and quirky, funny, silly (i.e From Whip it: "if the cream's been out too long you should whip it") and that's the quirky eclectic "fun" sound we were trying to achieve. I think our results are very "Trancy" yet at the same time it's radically different due to the sounds and higher pitches that we used.

Thanks everyone, we really appreciate any extra clicks or feedback that you would care to give (Comments are now disabled at the comp so you would need to leave comments here).

Next purchase for us will definitely be the Z3TA+ !!

That was entertaining. I definitely hear the Devo influence. And I always like guitars in trance music.

Thank you so much, we really appreciate your kind words!! We're even more glad you found it entertaining because we think it's quite fun & dancey!!

Did you like the automated modulation on the mid-bass line? That's "Filter Electro Bass" from the Rapture & It brings out some beautiful subtleties in the final mix. I must admit, I am very addicted to the synths that have MW (modulation wheel) functionality because it adds so much to a final product being able to subtly create that variation (especially with automation!!)

The Stab is RGC Rave 3 and the lead synth is called Breakout with the pulsing synth being Classic Square.

The Chromatic Scale that bridges the sections is Trance Lead 1& I must confess that we also used the Dull Slap One fingered bass from Dimension Pro (So glad they came as a bundle!!)

And if anyone is so inclined, we would LOVE to receive your vote!!

Nice! I think I'd better pay more attention to those Rapture basses.

    That was very devo-esque.
    Very well mixed too.

We're loving the Rapture, it's like a mine that you dig around in never knowing what gems you will discover!!

And thank you PH68 for saying it was well mixed and devo-esque, I really value that because I worked hard on the mixing and my wife and I kept ourselves in check to make sure we captured that "Devo sound"!!

But.... We've just slipped to position 10, sigh :( The genre of Electro House is currently leading which I think is a shame because it's very subdued and lacking in energy. That's not a criticism of the leader's work, just that I am amazed that the style is so popular...

That said, Cakewalk has definitely impressed us and we're going to continue buying their synths (as we can afford it...)

Love it. Great corny hook that just works. great production.
Yea, I like rapture too. A lot of stuff in there. programming it is another story. I'm clueless there.

Wow, thank you so much for this link regarding the Rapture patch, I am in a whole new happy place now! Those synths are wonderful and it's like we have just discovered a whole new section of the mine (i.e the gem mine of instruments!)

This is wonderful, thank you very much for sharing!!

I haven't learnt how to program it either but with the latest patch pack I feel that we have just so many sounds now!!

We're still stuck at position 10 but luckily the vote count isn't a final say, it's Devo that has that!

    How'd you do the voices?

    What FX are you using?

    (I have to know).

And also... what DAW did you use to record/mix.
Was it Sonar or something else.

We used Ableton Live 8.2 for the whole composition and for the voices we used a combination of Ping and Pong from the Audio Effects rack to create the echo and repeat. I keep forgetting the Rapture is  programmable, we literally just drag and drop it as a VST instrument and use the presets.

I'm guessing here, but I imagine dropping the vocal as a wav into the Rapture and using one of it's delays (triple delay etc) would create a similar effect to ping/pong.

And thank you so much for the compliment. We're holding at position 10 and are anxiously awaiting the results of the competition! Any additional votes are greatly appreciated!

Oh I forgot to add that Auto Swirl is the effect used on the repeat of the verse (that singing in a can effect).

Suggestion, you might want to post about your devo-licious work in the Songs forum. Fairly active there and you might pick up some listens, votes, even better, some musical comrades!
