Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage

one of the best rock documentaries i've seen.
excellent.
even if you're only marginally a rush fan, it's still worth seeing.

I don't care for Mr. Limbaugh nor his rock either.

+1, superbly put together. I'm still amazed at that home footage of Alex Lifeson telling his parents he was dropping out of college to be a musician!

The live stuff from the mid-late '70's was particularly strong I thought, Lee was on top of his game then.

Yeah the old footage was amazing. There are so many things I wish they would have went into more in depth,  but then it could have turned into a full mini-series!

I really enjoyed this myself. I haven't watched the 2hr bonus footage yet. I did see the show here this year and it was one of the better tours I've seen from them in a while.

Thanks for the tip, bat. I've put it on my Netflix queue. Not a big Rush fan myself (although I would be if they were an instrumental band), but I am a fan of this type of documentary.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    +1

I saw when broadcast and then checked it out from the library to watch again.

My favorite part is the look on Alex's face when the waitress is nudging him out of the way to get Geddy's autograph.  In any other group that'd likely be a point of jealousy, but their friendship is so strong it's more like an inside joke.

(Also liked the shots of La Villa Strangiato performance.)

it's funny, but you can hear the early performances, back when they were playing club gigs, before they were ever signed, and it still sounds like rush.

    hehe
i just saw them a couple of years ago, on the snakes and arrows tour, they were as good as they ever were.

geddy's voice is getting old, but he's pro enough to know how to deal with it, and is still brave enough to stick it out there like he means it.

Hmmm.... I've got the Rush in Rio DVD and was watching some of that last night. Great Band, always wanted to see them live. My son just saw them this past summer. They did all of Moving Pictures. That must have been pretty darn good.

I caught it on HDNET iirc, a couple of months ago. Watched it 3 times, once with the wife who normally doesn't care much for this kind of thing. Iron Maiden Flight 666 was really good too.
