XP-50 as MIDI Controller for SONAR Producer

I guess this will get moved, however, I thought I'd start here.

I have a Roland XP-50 keyboard and was wondering if I should use it as a MIDI controller for SONAR Producer or should I purchase a MIDI controller that has no onboard sounds and functions solely as a MIDI controller?

I'd probably just use the XP-50 unless it can't do what you want. Here's some documentation using the XP-50 with external sequencers...

As long as it works, and gives you the functions you need, sure, put it to use!

I had an XP80 (Briefly - have since sold it), and yet I bought a dedicated midi controller just to have 88 weighted keys.  My main instrument is piano and I prefer the weighted feel when I play acoustic/electric piano.  But for all other type sounds I used the XP80 as my controller.

Need Roland XP-50 instrument definition file 2012/06/27 08:53:34 (permalink)
I quit playing for a number of years and now have started again. I reloaded my old Sonar 5, but need the instrument definition for a Roland XP-50. I would be extremely grateful to anyone who could help me out!

According to ...wicked in a 04/04/06 post (http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=740077), he has a XP-50 and uses XP-60 INS (http://www.cakewalknet.co...nitions/XP-60_ins.zip) that works fine. I tried the link, but cakewalknet is down right now, so I don't know if they still have that definition posted. I hope that helps. Good luck.
