wow, so are these built into the motherboard?  so if someone wanted to configure theirs with say an Nvidia - the person that puts together the configuration would choose a board with the Nvidia card?

i tried to search for laptop video cards on Newegg but didn't have much luck besides ones in a expresscard or pccard.

of the very very few laptops that actually have removable cards you have to buy a card from the same manufacturer.
they are not available for end user sale.
99% of laptops have soldered in video even when its dedicated. (discrete)

even if you could resolder then there is the whole bios issue (you would have to be able to write a bios.)

With most laptops, all of the extra stuff.... video and audio is all built in to the MB and is not upgradeable in an easy to do way.   Then even if you did, there;s that pesky bios thing....

Once there, the screen is displayed above the list of all equipment in the system. When you see that what you do, and the Display Adapters branch to expand the menu.

There IS the option of a USB video card. They are actually very good and I recommend them often to folks whose primary video display on their laptop sucks or is insufficient. Check tigerdirect or newegg and see what they've got. They're not too pricey and are super easy to install and get working. Plus you can move them to a desktop or another laptop whenever you want!
