Independence Free is terrific, but I have found it to be a tad unstable.
Crystal was the first synth I downloaded. Rich organic sounds.
Kore Player is great, but it is unstable and takes entirely too long to load patches.

+1 on yoyo.

Independence Free sounds great, but was unstable on my previous and current system (XP), so I did not install it on Win7.

Same experience with Kore Player too. It took forever to load patches, and even accessed my floppy sometimes.

But I like the 4Front freebies - bass, piano, and rhodes) and the Proteus VX (bit I completely reworked the presets to make it useful to me).

yeah i agree though Kore 2 Player is a lot better. I mention Independence cos it's a lot of sample for the money, so if you wanted one of the few instruments it covers, it's a great thing. but yeah, bounce to audio as soon as!

I never had any issues with Independence (free ot pro), except the time my hard drive was starting to fail. Maybe its an XP or 32 bit issue?

I agree the load times with Kore player can be a bit long. I have not had any stabilty problems with single instances, but I have had a couple of BSOD with three instances loaded.

Proteus VX is the one thing I never got working well in 64 bit.

Just to clarify, when I said "Same experience with Kore Player too", I was commenting that I had the same experience as yoyo with Kore Player (slow load times). My comment might have sounded like I was saying that Kore Player was unstable like Independence Free on my system.

But as you said, maybe Independence Free would have worked better on Windows 7.

No free ones on my system ... I'll re-look some of you-all's favs.

... several *almost-VSTs* that are next to free (<$30):

1) A cheerful collab partner whose willing to splill his/her heart into your/my song.  All mine have been free ... yet sooo pricele$$!!!!!

2) A cheerful forum artist-mate or 10 ... who are willing to crit or help out a song or technique.  All mine have been free ... 'must-haves' (all of you, basically)

3) Free (or almost free) MIDI's, waves, samples, MIDI code, and acid/apple loops abound.  Now more than ever is the time to pomp up with professional loops and/or samples that prevent re-inventing the wheels

4) Another live artist (great or small) nearby you/I is a must-have, IMHO ... especially if he/she is faithful and free ... to add new-blood to a vibe or song.

5) I'd like to think my own heart and brain can spot other VST-like, free, essential, helpers, and work-arounds ... to enhance the work-flow ... like thousands of refreshing new Sonar VSTs and DAW parameters, outboard instruments within my arms reach, church choirs, gigs, friends-who-help, etc.  ... but I'll spare you my pathetic plethoras.

I like this EQ, it's great for fine tuning. It says some systems can't run it, I have no problem using it, just read the info. at the bottom of the page for the specs.

It says donation ware, I haven't seen any nag screens or nothing like that, at least not yet.

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!

I know Acme Bar Gig was mentioned here, but unless I missed something on their forums, I don't think they offer "DIG" for guitars anymore?

Although I found it here on this link : Dig Download Link

Also, check out : Shred Download Link   It's very good also.

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
