"Timeline Zoom, that's another thing we've got in SONAR X1" - Brandon in emusician demo

Did he hover the mouse over the time ruler and use the scroll wheel? It happens so fast I can't tell what  he's doing.

See http://emusician.com/videos/aes_2010/cakewalk_sonar_x1/, about 6 minutes in.
This is probably the best demo of X1 I've seen so far.

Also: The "Edit Filtering" is per-track, not global to the whole track view. I didn't realize that. It seems like a "sticky" preference, in that the filter setting is a persistent property of the track.

    Indeed,

I really also like the "menu functions" per active window. Everything seems so much more streamline and organized properly.

Did not see what you thought you spotted, and I reran the section I though was about 6 minutes in several times.  However ... wow!  Yes, this is the best demo I've seen so far as well.  There's much to look forward to here.  Looks like it finally might be safe to use automation that you'll later need to edit.  And I have very high hopes for smart tools.  They sure look good when being demo-ed.  Hopefully they'll be that good in real life.  Per screen menus?  Brilliant!

Now, if CW will just throw in another free synth.

Definitely an improvement, but I hope we don't lose the ability to customize menus. I already have custom right click menus for every area of the program that are very clean and concise compared to the 8.5 defaults.

+1 This video was by far the best so far, and I am starting to get a little excited and less cynical that we are 'only' getting a GUI update. Some of those GUI features look like big time savers.

Did anyone else think they saw handles on the data in the controller pane of the PRV? I hope so, as the existing controllers are really tough to 'grab' unless you draw over them with pencil tool.

You can do this right now, in Sonar 8.5.3.  No need to wait for X1 :-)

Indeed, you are right about that. I had forgotten about the option to turn them on!

In the video, I thought I saw handles on the velocity pane now as well, but alas upon watching again, its still the same as it is now in 8.5 - no handles.  I think handles for controllers such as CC and NRPN have been available for a couple versions, but what I was really hoping for were handles for velocity as well, since the pencil tool is no joy. You wouldn't happen to know a setting I may have missed that will give me the same handles for velocity?

    Cheers,

No, I don't know any way to add handles to velocity.  But I find the pencil tool good enough for the task as long as you use your modifier keys (i.e. Ctrl+Shift to draw straight lines).  I don't find handles are necessary for velocity since they are attached to the notes, unlike CC data which can be moved around.

    Take care!

The thing I noticed that has been an aggravation that has been fixed is the clip/automation envelopes move with the clip.  When he did the cut and move all the original automation went with it.  Nice!

Yup - timeline zoom is there. Good catch! (It's something I've always wanted in SONAR.)
