Recording Delay

Hi everyone.  I'm new to Sonar but I have done a lot of research on this topic prior to this posting.

I'm running my GNX4 into and M-Audio Mobile Pre.  For some reason when I record I get a delay between when I play a note and when the speakers register it.  I've lowered the latency as far as I can without chopping but the issue is still unresolved.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I'm using Sonar 8.5 Studio with Windows 7.  I also have something called IDT High Definition Audio Codec.

Welcome Rog, first we need to know a little more about your system specs. When you get up and running on the forum, it's a good idea to put them in as your signature. Well, the M-Audio Mobile Pre is a preamp and audio interface, but what driver have you installed to connect it up to your system? Is your system a laptop or tower system? Is the disk 7200rpm or 5400 rpm? processor? memory? OS? You get the drift?

Lets know your set up and we can start to sort it out

    Cheers

First off, I would check to see if your using your onboard sound card.

You should only be using your M-audio with Sonar and make sure your in ASIO or WDM driver modes.
Also make sure your ASIO buffer is down to 64 or 128. (this is not your I/O buffers)

Thanks.  I installed just the regular M-Audio driver on the M-Audio website.  Is there a better one I can use?  My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop, Pentium Dual Core CPU.  It's Windows 7 operating system.  I'm not sure what rpm the disk is.  And it has 4GB memory.

Is there possibly a better driver I can use?  I installed Asio4All at first but I wasn't getting anysound when I was using it.

You need to use the latest M-audio drivers for your sound card at M-audio.com. Make sure you installed the latest Win 7 64 or 32bit drivers.
You didnt list if your using 32bit or 64bir Win 7, but just installl the latest drivers form maudio and then defien your maudio card in SONAR and then try ASIo and WDM driver modes and see what works best for you.

EDIT. Dont use ASIO4all. Use the drivers form maudio.com and use the latest win7 64 or 32bit drivers

    Welcome!
When in Sonar - go to Options | Audio and click on the drivers tab.  Check your m-Audio driver boxes, and make sure your on board is not checked.
In general tab - use your m-audio 1-2 as your input and output timing master.

So I installed updated driver from M-Audio for Windows 7 (64 bit).  When I try ASIO it says the sample rate of my sound card is not supported and I have to sync it somehow.  Is this normal?  When I tried WDM driver mode it showed that I was playing but I couldn't hear anything.

You have to tell us whether you're recording a MIDI track or an audio track. If its a MIDI track, do you have it assigned to a softsynth? If its an audio track, check the windows and soundcard mixers to make sure you don't have it muted or turned down. Those are common mistakes.
