I'm watching the vidz on it now. I dunno, I'm a little disappointed.

I stopped using GURU because it was too cumbersome for using as a dedicated loop and beat-making station within a sequencer. GEIST seems to have taken all of those things and gone further with them. It's super-powerful for sure, but now they've gone ahead an invented what is basically a entry-level DAW. Tracks, song mode, aux buses, fx-chain presets, trigger-to-sequence...it's SONAR! Only lite on everything else.

Watching the vidz, the narrator is constantly stopping to check where he is in the program, and that is precisely why I didn't like GURU and what I think they missed for a focus point for GEIST. I don't need an 8-track sequencer within my sequencer, I need an elegant and thorough workstation for chopping apart beats, synthesizing beats, and building grooves. Which GEIST is, but it's also so much more that it becomes less usable.

Maybe for someone with a good hardware controller can use it stand-alone as an MPC replacement... and maybe that's what it's supposed to be. I was hoping for something that was a little more beat-centric than the cell-based plugins and the "it looks like a drum kit!" samplers.
