Re-Foamed Monitors

I'm looking at a set of monitors but the woofers have been re-foamed - I know this may be a dumb question, but is this a common practice for older units ? And I suspect it would effect the sound  ?

Any input is appreciated !

Thanks !

Replacing drivers or getting a recone is no big deal... if the correct replacements are used.

    Were they?

If not... you are looking at a Custom set of speakers which may or not sound like what you expect them to sound like.

Re-coned? Yeah, no biggie with re-coned speakers. As Mike pointed out, it does matter if the correct cones were used.

My band had a bunch of speakers and we would blow them out from time to time. We always sent them to a factory authorized repair/re-coning service center.

Assuming an off brand cone would fit ....say in a JBL or EV basket..... the cone and coil would not be the same as the factory cones and would sound different and perhaps not have the same efficiency, SPL/Watt, or tone of the original.

I have a couple of general monitor sitting on top of my luck / table. I feel very bad with the low I know the monitor and desk. There are probably several solutions, like the foam. I wish it be useful?

My old yamahas were almost like new after getting their re-coning.  And yea, the foam does get old.  It ain't no big deal.
