Laptop Blues...

I am considering buying a laptop to complement my DAW(which I am taking my very sweet time upgrading).  Judging from the threads online, the newer laptops and "DPC" in the newer processors will not really take advantage of the faster speeds of these new generation laptop.  My question is (Short of spending 4+g's on a true quad core non-DPC laptop) SHould I be looking at an older generation core2duo with 6gb ram limits, or an AMD?  those who have had success using i3-i7's please feel free to chime in......Thanks in advance.
PS  I run  multiple 32 and 64 bit VST's, and do not really care about firewire.....

I have a core2 duo running vista 32..... Dell Inspiron 1720.  I think 1 or 2 GB ram.... not really sure.

I run MC 4 on it and it runs a bunch of the 32 bit VST's and FX  pretty good.  It's getting a bit long in the tooth now and the CPU numbers are up..... so it's time to reformat and reinstall and clean the junk that accumulates over time.....

its not about not taking avantage of speeds a built for audio laptop will most certainly do well.
the issue is most off the shelf laptops wont work for audio especially firewire.
i would assume if you are doung VSTi you want low latency and firewire is the best option (other than RME USB)

but since you said you dont care about firewire (not sure why) your chances of it working are much better

Thanks.  That somewhat answers my question.  Am I then right in assuming a proper FW interface (TI) will yield better latency for using VSTi's and VST's?  My custom built laptops allows a very nice yield for latency, and can hold ample VSTi's and VST's, but I do njot know how a laptop will peform.  I'd assume the performance decrease is accurte, but I do not have any type of metrics to make an informed decision.
