X1 System requirements

I have an intel dual cpu e2180 2.00 giz.  4 meg ram.  Will that cut it with sonar x1. I know it is below system requirements, but didn't know if that was just recommended or absolutely necessary. i am running win 7 pro. 32 bit   Thanks.

    4 meg ram?????

I hope you meant 4 Gigs or otherwise you'd be running a 286 or something ... (ahhh, I remember having to upgrade my 8MB to 16MB to play Quake without having to watch rockets travel down the hall frame by frame)

    ANYWAY...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel that you will able to install and run SONAR X1, but the limitations of your system might come through when you run multiple synths, effects and tracks. In other words, there is no minimum to install and run SONAR, but there is definitely systems that are "better suited" for high track count projects, especially if you do everything "in the box"

We also need to know a bit more about what soundcard and driver you're using on this system.

Luckily, Freeze has always been one of Sonar's strong points. I happlessly freeze freeze freeze tracks, even though I'm rarely hitting the ceiling on my quad core.

(OT - I sometimes still listen to the Trent Reznor tracks for Quake now and again... )

John Carmack has announced he wants to do some sort of Quake project for the iPhone and iPad in 2011 ...

    But I digress ...

I spoke to a Roland rep in store today (and had a look at X1 in the flesh !!) and he said that if I'm running Sonar 8 ok then I'll be able to run X1, but of course there may be issues on projects with loads of effects/synths etc. etc.

I think if I upgrade I'll do it on my present system and see how it goes, if I then need to upgrade my system I will.

I'm thinking the same thing, FastBikerBoy. My system is just a hair below the listed system specs (Intel Pentium Duo E5500 instead of Intel Core 2 Duo E8200), but I have plenty of RAM and everything else. (I'm HOPING) it should work fine. I never really use a heapload of synths or anything.

    SONAR X1 System Requirements

    • Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit)/Vista Service Pack 2 (32- or 64-bit)/Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit)*
    • Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.67 GHz/AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 Ghz
    • 2 GB RAM
    • 1280x800 minimum screen resolution
    • 4.5GB for minimal installation, 15GB for complete installation
    • SONAR on DVD: DVD-ROM, DVD+/-R or DVD+/-RW Drive
    • SONAR download: Broadband or better internet connection for download
    • Cakewalk Publisher requires available web server space with FTP access

    * Windows XP Media Center and Windows XP 64-bit are not officially supported. SONAR X1 Essential is a 32-bit application only but can run on 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

My question is; what drives SKYLIGHT.
I notice there is not a minimum video requirement other than screen resolution.
Is a 17 inch LCD or VGA monitor just not cutting it?
Is 256mb video card not good enough?
Is Skylight integrated into X1, so that such a requirement is necessary; or is it an optional feature.

Or: Am I on the wrong track. Skylight is driven by CPU and system RAM.

I loved Quake ... I was unbeatable online.

I was 'Leatherface' at quake.nac.net ... hated 'round the world by thousands.

I doubt anyone remembers me now though.

I've been a CW user since Pro Audio 5.  I can almost guarantee you you'll be able to install and use a lot of X1, but that there'll be some sluggishness with some features.

I'm in the same boat as you and I'm going to wait till my next computer for X1.  8.5.3 works pretty well on my 4yr old system....  I'm just going to have to wait awhile longer....

    Peace,

    Ian

I cannot believe all three editions have the same system requirements.  Does feature-limited SONAR X1 Essential even require Core 2 Duo E8200 class processors?

I'm guessing the labeling of Core 2 as a requirement is 1) just more of a safety line of a processor that works flawlessly with the program, and perhaps 2) a means of pushing out a newer model for Intel's sales. That kinda thing. I HOPE it's something like that, so that my Pentium Dual will work fine with it! ><
