I know it was a mistake to upgrade to 8.5 and…

not buy the boxed version.

UK has rather backward Broadband and 14 hours to download 2 gig! Ouch!

Certainly will upgrade my free X1 version to a boxed version and save myself any hassle.

That sounds more like dial-up than broadband. Don't know who your provider is but that's not typical for broadband, not mine anyway.

I live in a village and can still only get 1Mb broadband delivered through a quaint copper wire coming into my house via a lovely old fashioned GPO (remember them) style telegraph pole.

Even so that sounds rather slow for broadband, I upgraded my DAW to 64-bit last week and had to get a bunch of upgrades from several of my user accounts, 1mb is slow and not good enough in this day and age.

Its quite clear that the some service providers throttle back the connection speeds on weekday evenings and its always best to avoid starting downloads in these periods if it can be avoided.
