A Couple Questions

1-Why the hell Sonar X1?

Why not simply 9? Or 8.6? Or 8.7.4.679.543.687?  Is there any sense to numbering schemes?

If they wanted to look like roman numerals then it should be IX.  X1 is not as roman numeral, although it looks a lot like XI, which is number 11.  In fact, I would bet that a lot of people misread the version as Sonar XI (11), and will wonder what happened to 9 (IX) and 10 (X). (Not to mention 9.5 and 10.5.)

Will the next version be X2.  (then x3, x4, etc.) (Or X1.5, X2, X2,5, etc.?) After x8.5, does it go to Y1? After Z, back to A?

What kind of nuts come up with this stuff?  (In fact, I wish they had never adopted the Sonar name at all (named after I believe something to find objects under the sea). I wish they had kept the much more human original name--Cakewalk)  (One thing I am glad--that Roland did not change it to Rolandar or Rolandase, or RolTools.) (I perhaps shouldn't have written the last sentence. It might give Mr. Roland ideas for the next version.)

2. How recently does one have to have purchased 8.5, to get X1 for free? Oh, now I saw somewhere-November. Hey, that is way too short, just a couple of months. They should at least go back a couple of months.

3. Trying to find out what has been improved in this newest version, I looked at the info/overview page for it. All I see there is ad copy like "Reimagined",implications that one will reach nirvana and orgasm simultaneously if one buys it, become a genius, and produce the greatest music in the world, but not actual facts regarding what has been improved. Where can one find that info?

Thank you for the info.

Because once you get to 10 you have to go to 11. Seriously, why does it matter? There is no musical mysticism attached. There is no gradient of knowledge associated with skipping 9 or 10 or 11. X1 is a new start. Stop thinking in terms 8-8.5.3, 9, 9.1, etc. Look at the new system and examine it as something brand new instead of bringing old (possibly bad) habits with you. With each new release I run through all the functions and decide which I need for what and what I can do with each.

8 was 8, 8.5 was 9, X1 is 10, X2 will be 11 and so on. 8.5 was not called 9 because they believed it was not a big enough jump to deserve an entirely new number. X1 is a whole new SONAR so it left the traditional numbering scheme. Don't think of it as 10+1, but the first of the tens, so ten... So X2 is the second of the tens, so 11... It doesn't make sense in a mathematical kind of sense, but just take it for what it is and it works, I believe. It's a new generation; generation X.... It works, as long as you don't try and make sense of it!!

I don't get the disapointment with the name. If you want to name a product then you'll have to invent one. Cakewalk can do what they want. Sheesh!

If one had to guess as to why? Probably because the look and feel of it will be different. So why not a new name?

What I want to know is why can't we use Sonar as a fish finder? LOL!

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

They should use it as a slogan on the promos, with a deep voiced movie trailer narrator and a big, deep hall reverb with lots of low resonance:

    It's a new generation... Generation X.

Then lots of loud noises and guitars and double kicks.

It's a new product called Sonar X, and this is version 1. Hence Sonar X1. What's so freakin' hard to understand about that? It's not Sonar 10, or some Roman numeral. Where do you people get that from?

It has to be something new, as X1 changes everything.

    8 was 8, 8.5 was 9, X1 is 10, X2 will be 11 and so on.

Nope. It´s really simple like this:  8=8, 8.5=8.5, X1=X1, X2=X2... and so on.

BTW, with the completely new GUI it was a good move to rename it. X1 is a great fresh start.

Yes, it's still Sonar under the hood but it has a completely new look. I also believe much of the code was rewritten and optimized in 8 and 8.5. So all in all it's pretty much a complete rewrite, and therefore a rename such as this seems justified and logical IMO.

It also doesn't really matter what it's called does it? It could be called The Bakers Mega Music Cake for all I care, as long as it still works properly.
