Sonar X1 and Sonitus Plugs ..... still only DX or have they also been ported to VST ?

Hi CW

Presuming the Sonitus Plugs are still in Sonar X1, are they still DX only  or  have they now been ported to  native  X64  VST  plugs ?

Thx, tomg

They are native x64 DX plugins in SONAR 8.5.3 (x64)

Can only presume that they  will be included but even of not of you have a previous version they will work

    Hi Mike

    Thanks for that.

Reason I am curious is that given  DX  as a format seems to be just about "orphaned"   [ Cubase / Logic / Pro Tools dont allow for it ]  I'm figuring that sooner or later  CW will do the same,  so am *very*  keen to see the Sonitus Plugs ported over so we dont all of a sudden " lose "  them.

Seems to me that on the PC front   [ sooner rather than later ]   it will be  only    RTAS and VST.

The Sonitus plugs are  very highly  under-rated  so if they can go VST sooner rather than later, that will be a very good thing.

Its interesting to note that Sony still support DX plugins in Sound Forge 10.b (latest and current version) and I'd guess in Vegas Pro

so am *very* keen to see the Sonitus Plugs ported over so we dont all of a sudden " lose " them.

Not gonna happen. It's not as if DX plugins will suddenly stop working. CW may elect to stop bundling the Sonitus suite someday, but that doesn't mean they won't work anymore. They'd have to specifically remove long-working code and go out of their way to drop support for DX. I can't imagine that happening. There is simply no motivation to go to that much trouble.

The other DAW vendors you mention do have motivation for abandoning DX, reasons that don't apply to CW. Steinberg naturally wants to promote VST. Logic exists primarily to sell Apple hardware. Avid gets a cut of every third-party RTAS plugin sold. These are marketing, not technical, decisions.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

As far as I know, Samplitude, Sony (Vegas/Sound Forge/Acid), SawStudio and the vast majority of DAW applications on the PC sill support DX. Development might have ceased, but it's still widely supported.

Pro Tools never supported it, so it's not like they dropped it.
Logic is Mac only, so no DX there.
Cubase/Nuendo dropped it (and made a lot of customers very happy w/ Steinberg by doing so ;)

I highly doubt that Cakewalk is likely to drop DX support in a near future.

DX is alive and well in the Windows graphic world with DX 11, so unless MS decides to radically change their DX spec, the plugs should work for years.
