Saving a Piano Roll

Hey guys,

I'm not going to pretend that I have any knowledge of MIDI, so take this for what it's worth:

I just spent a few hours hand programming Session Drummer 3 using Sonar's PRV. (I think it
came out great, but that's a whole 'nother story!).

Is there a way to get that same drum pattern into another project? Can you save just the
MIDI info that's contained in the PRV? For example, if I make a killer drum fill, can I save
that somewhere for the next time I need a killer drum fill?

I looked at the 'right click' options on the track as well as the options under the 'File' menu
and can't seem to find anything that fits the bill. And the help file was... less than helpful in
this instance. I also called up the step sequencer view, but the PRV view info didn't appear.

TIA,

Mike

If you just want to save a basic MIDI clip, the easiest way is to open the folder where you want to save it, and just drag the clip to that folder directly from the Track View. For a drum groove that you want to use as a loop, hit Ctrl-L to convert it to a Groove Clip, and then go to File > Export > MIDI Groove Clip.

Just to get you started a few things to look at that will help.

1. Split your track into separate sections using the split tool(split at selection option is good for this) , eg vrse 1, chorus, fill 1. fill 2, verse 2 etc. Work with about 4 or 8 measures at a time for reg and 1- 2 measures for Fills

2. Right click on one of the clips.  At the very bottom of the menu that comes up are 3 arrows (>>>). Click on that.  In the sub menu that comes up select Convert midi clips to step sequencer.

3. In the clip(s) (that you converted) there will now be a box in the upper left corner of the  clip.  Double click that and the step sequencer will open up with the  midi info you had in PRV.

4.  In the measure line  1,2,3,4 etc to the left are 3 boxes.  The one on the right(load/save step sequencer patterns) is where you save/load patterns you have created.

This should get you started on what you are trying to do.
