GuitarHacker - Session Drummer 2 ???

Hey Herb,
Did you get session drummer 2 yet and have you had a chance to play with it. I downloaded it this past weekend, and just started to play with it. The kits it comes with aren't the greatest but seem to be workable for me now. Not sure if it will perform much better than the "Ultimate Drums" soundfont I've downloaded and used which comes with like 8 different decent kits. I may be able to use the samples in Session Drummer 2 which may lower my CPU overhead.

yeah, I picked it up...the price was a steal and it helps pay some salaries up in Boston.... I heard they need the stimulus....

I opened it up in MC4 and played with it a bit... the sounds were OK.... I really have not done too much with it.

However, I'm just about to run out of music to work on so that will give me some time to look up the manual and read through it, check out the videos and work thorough them as well. It seems to be easy to work with from the short video I saw but I need to spend more time with it.... maybe later this week I can dig in.

I used Jamstix with a BAttery set to lay down some tracks today on a back burner song that needs to be done.

I want to point out that you can make your own kit from the various samples; you're not locked in to the standard kits.
Just load and audition the drums until you find the ones you like, then save it. You also can put any sample in any slot, regardless of the icon.

I haven't had a chance to play with this much. I tried loading the wave's for EZ drummer but they wouldn't load. I'll have to try to find some decent samples. Thanks.

seasonal Sam Adams?  I do like the winter lager, but don't care for the summer one.

I used to get the Sam Adams winter samplers when I worked in Massachusetts. When I moved to Pa we always got Yuengling. Very good stuff. I liked their winter samplers as well. Now that I'm in Canada, I'm not all that impressed with the assortment. The Molson Canadian is O.K., not that crazy about Labotts... I miss Sam and Ying!

I have tried the seasonal blends but my old standard with SA is the Boston Lager.

I bought a few of the sample cases and there are some good ones  in that.

So I had downloaded Session Drummer 2. Still haven't played with this much. It seems like on the Brush set, the drums are a bit too resonant and the cymbals sound really  thin.  I haven't tried any different samples yet since I haven't had the time to work with this much. The interface seems easy enough to work with, though. I guess I really need to find some nice samples for this.

I tried to use it this morning to add a few drum hits to the ending of a song.  I was able to get it there... but the drums did not match acoustically..... so believe it or not, I popped TTS in and the drums sounded close enough for the song.

    I might post it later....

Yeah, that's kinda the way I feel. I think with the right samples it may be a good thing. I may have some time this weekend to work on a useable set.

Better samples might make a bit of difference and some novel eqing, but I guess the point is that you want to be making songs not tweaking a drum kit.  I don't mind the sounds the Toms are just a bit 'tinny'.  Find more and more that I am using the jazz type kit (non brush) for rock tracks.  I however am entirely midi, no live instruments, using soundfonts and vstis.  For drums sounds I really don't see a heck of a lot of difference between the old nskit7freelite, TTS, StudioDrums and the drum sounds in Cakewalk Sound Centre.  So Session Drummer is the kit of choice right now with the occasional borrowed sample from elsewhere.  Lately I haven't even bothered sorting the drum tracks differently (separating the Kick and cymbals for instance), just put a standard reverb from the cakewalk one (usually Piano Room medium), some panning of secondary drums/percussion, and then I throw a free compressor of sorts (drum squisher setting) over the top that tends to make them pop a bit like the drummer is giving them a real smack.....the  biggest problem I have is not the drums but the guitar sounds in certain situations.  I guess it's easy to create rythm tracks (Drums and Bass) but not so easy to do guitar and piano leads without decent samples.  (Easier just to get the Audio cable eventually as I can actually play the guitar reasonably)

The whole thing there...for me, was the SD2 has a bunch of kits and a bunch of drums in it. I did not have the time to search and find one that sounded similar to what I already had. Since that drum track was audio...... I could not simply add more notes.... that's why I needed a midi drum set.

I know what you mean Herb. Actually, I found that the Ultimate Drums sound fonts are a great GM replacement for the TTS-1 Drums. I think there are like 8 drum kits all full GM and the tones are a bit better.

I need to learn more about the SD... the price was a deal so I bought it even though I really didn't need it.

The kits sound good, but I just gotta take the time to work with it some.... when I have the time...
