V AMP PRO Users please could you offer some advice ?
Hi all I recently bought a Vamp pro and a Vamp bass pro. I have been told I can control the sounds from it from the computer useing softwere. Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to down load from behringer to do this I couldnt seem to find it or I have over looked it. ( sorry if it was obvious) Also I was told it was controled through midi I have a VS700 with one midi in. I have my TD-20 in that so I would need more Midi inputs to conect it up to save me being in and out of my rack all the time. Any advice on how to go about geting more midi inputs hooked up ? Thanks to all in advance :) Norrie

According to the Behringer website: "MIDI implementation includes program changes, control changes and SysEx, allowing complete MIDI automation through our free Windows editor software downloadable at www.behringer.com". You can get the editor software and firmware updater here: http://www.behringer.com/...t/V-Amp-Downloads.aspx

Regarding MIDI, the MIDI-In on your VS700 might be OK for the V-Amp, but you'll need a MIDI-out in order to use the editor software to control the V-Amp. Does the TD-20 have a MIDI-Thru you can use? If you want to control both V-Amps, you'll need to get a new MIDI interface like the Cakewalk UM-3G Multiport. http://www.musiciansfrien...iZfGx6UCFcXD7QodkX7sLA

Thanks for the reply I will get the firmwere and the windows down load one in the morning. The TD-20 has a in on it and an out/thru http://www.google.co.uk/i...amp;ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0 I dont know much about midi tbh I could do with out both the vamps runing at the same time but need the TD-20 and one Vamp runing and being able to control it via mid Would I still need the Midi interface for that ? I have the TD-20 going out to the in put on the Vs700 to trigger my Superior drummer. The VS-700 has an in out and thru I am confused now :S Norrie Norrie

If I have this right My Vamp is controled going to the Vs700 vi analof left and right I have it set up that way. So I could have a midi going from the out on the VS700 back to the Vamp pro and that could then use the editor software to control the V-Amp ? And my midi in could still have my TD-20 ? Hmmmmmm I really am confused I know not much about the way midi works Thanks for anyhelp on this Norrie

You said that you use the TD-20 to trigger your drums, and that it's connected to the VS700. So that means that the VS700 has a MIDI-out port available (not the MIDI-in). So you might be in luck. You could connect the MIDI-out on your V-Amp to the MIDI-in on the TD-20, which will then be passed to the VS700 with the TD-20 Midi-Out/Thru. Then connect the MIDI-out on the VS700 to the V-Amp MIDI-in. After you install the V-Amp editor software, you'll need to identify which MIDI ports you are using with the V-Amp, and you will select the VS-700 MIDI ports. Please let us know how it works out.

An Eprom is, I believe, an Eraseable, Programmable, Read Only Memory chip. They state, "If you do not have the means to write this datafile to a blank EPROM, then you can order a pre-programmed EPROM from your nearest BEHRINGER authorised service centre." If you haven't the means to write data to one of these chips, I'd leave well alone to be honest mate. There's one available for my Bass V-Amp, but when you weigh up the pros & cons of buying a chip, the chance of it not working or completely trashing the unit, against the sounds that we already have, I think I'll give it a miss. I'm going to follow your progress on Midi automation and see how you get on with it before taking the plunge. Have you downloaded the Editor software yet?

Yes, please do. I think you're approaching this the right way - start off with the most simple configuration you can set up. Leave the complicated stuff when you've got your head around the basics. No, I've not tried using the editor yet, I've only just read about it thanks to this thread!

All apart from 3 of the Bass amp Efx have problems and are unable to be moved to the library I will let you know If I can put them in to the preset with out doing that first but I dont think I can ;( The Vamp pre sets were the same loads of them wouldnt let me dump it across in to the library

I Emailed Behringer tec Support about the firmeare up datefor any one interested I will paste the reply in below this Basicaly its not worth doing IMO not that that counts for much though haha Hi Norrie and thank you for writing to BEHRINGER technical support! The only real way to tell which version you have is to open it up and look at the EPROM chip. I wouldn't recommend opening it up if you have a new unit as it will most likely be the current version and you would void your warranty. The current versions of all V-Amp models are as follows : V-Amp 1 V-Amp 2 V-Amp Pro Vampire LX1200 Vampire LX112 Vampire LX210 all V2.2.4 Bass V-Amp Bass V-Amp Pro -both V1.09 the "improvements" in v2.2.4 are not officially documented - however the only change that the user will notice is the inclusion of the "global input sensitivity" control (a la Bass V-Amp) - to adjust for different grades of pick-up. We hope that we have been able to help you with this information. Best regards, Ben O. Your BEHRINGER Customer Support Team

Hey Bristol I spent what time I could today seting up the softwere for the behringer. This is what I did and have found. Installed fine then conected up with midi in and out it then finds the Vamp You can then use the on screen controller to controll the sounds for the Vamp rather than useing the unit its self Once you have a sound you like you can then name it and save it to a Library for future use. You can then use your saved sounds and then insert them in any order you like over the 25 banks from A through to E The editor for that is pritty cool apart from one flaw I have found...... I wil get to that a bit later in this post So you can make up your own Librarys and save them in there own folders for looking up later so thats cool Once you have your librarys set how you like or all in one folder tottaly up to the user you can go in and start programing the banks in the Vamp it comes up like a grid 1-25 down the left and A-E along the top so you can just drag them in and drop them ( Very cool ! ) In every patch it is default set to USER PRESET (all 250 of them) When you drag in your named sound it then changes it to what you have named it and the sound is automaticaly saved to that bank on the Vamp ! Very cool for me THE PROBLEM THOUGH!!!!!!! So I put a whole load of stuff on to different banks and it was all named I checked they were all there and that the sounds were all ok I then shut the screen with the grid knowing It was all now on the Vamp I then decided to open it back up and I was disapointed to see it was all back saying USER PRESET in every box ! Each of the sounds I had were still in the right place etc even after unpluging the midi and then re pluging etc so that is good news What I should have done so I would have rememberd what all my pre sets were was to have taken a screen print and then I would have known for suture reference ( a quick guide ) There seems to be no way to bring it back to tell me the names ive tryed everything I can think of. Disapointing........ but at least a screen print is a work around :) I will do it again tomorow and take a screen print this problem might only be for me becuase I cant remember one thing from the next but for others this might not be a problem. Eather way though I am happy with the editor so a big thumbs up ! Oh there are also loads of presets to download on the behringer site a lot of them are actualy very good. I was playing about with some White Snake ones and some Marshall JCM presets all to my likeing and once you load them you can tweek them aswell and then save to your likeing :) The plus side for me aswell with all this messing about today is that If I set up 250 presets and then take a screen print I dont have to always have it conected with the midi I only need to do it when I want to edit on the screen so I dont need to buy a Midi interface for the extra conections :) I hope some of this info helps others thinking of useing it I like it :) Norrie

Hey Norrie - great post mate, lots of useful information. I've got so much on my plate at the moment I don't think I'll be looking at this until the Christmas holidays, but I've already printed out the above in readiness. As for posting screenshots, you need to host them somewhere on a website - I use either Photobucket or Imageshack. They're both free, and when you've uploaded them, you can copy the link code into Sonar as follows: Click the "Insert an Image" icon, then paste the URL into the dialog box. How's the weather where you are? We are, at the moment, completely free of snow in Bristol, though it is mighty cold.

Not here mate. Bristol is sheltered by hills on two sides and the Severn Estuary to the West, so when anything nasty does get through, you can bet the rest of the country is in deep doo doo.!!!
