GT-4 - Multiple track recording
I want to be able to record direct and mic my amp. Is it possible with GT-4. If it is I'm not seeing it.

Jim, not an expert by any means, but I have recorded direct from my amp using a USB mic, so its possible. GTP will need to see your mic. Make a track for that mic, and in the input/output option, select the mic as the input. Might need to hit the "input echo" button to hear what you are playing. Chris

Telemaster - Thanks for the help, but I'm trying to record on two tracks at once. I hit record on a track and then another and the first goes off. I'm starting to think GT4 doesn't let you record on more than one track at a time. By the way - sweet axe you have there.

I sold my homebuilt and bought a MIM midnight wine telecaster, changed the pickguard to a white pearl. LOVE it! When I get a chance, will see if I can record like you would like. Wife has me busting butt on Xmas misc---LOL Chris

It's possible Jim, but it has more to do with your sound card/ interface capabilities than GTP4. What sound card are you using? Do you have an external mixer? It should be relatively easy to set up, but we'll need to know what you are working with. Some sound card/ interfaces may limit your options, but if you have a basic mixer(such as the Behringer Xenyx802), you can do it very easily.

Jim, I I have an interface called a Lexicon Alpha. It connects to the computer via USB, and has L/R line ins, an XLR, 2 line outs, and RCA jacks. The front panel has an instrument line in, and volume controls. I did a test with it, connecting my Xenyx 802 L/R outs to the L/R ins, and was able to record mic and guitar on separate tracks. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty sure that you don't necessarily need a mixer, as the Alpha has XLR and line in. I bought this at Guitar Center in the US for $79.

I have had no problem recording 2-6 channels at once but I am using 2 differant pci input cards a e-mu and a m-audio both set to 24/96. I am using both analog and the s/pdif at the same time and recording up to 6 guitar tracks(in stereo) at the same time. the inputs and the program have to bee set just right(mme) to do it but my computer was built just for music recording and gaming. you should also shut off any! power saving features your computer has and over clock the pci bus just a little(I OC to 105-110mhz) the pci input is the fastest & cleanest way to record I have found so far. even the high end guys go from an external input to a pci/pci-e interface i.e. moto or a dedicated pro tools style rack/desktop unit. I record all direct w/tube pre's just before the input just to warm things up a bit. I use the direct monitoring set up so there is NO latency making recording so much smoother. try an m-audio 24/96 or the 24/192 both are fast simple and sound good. you can get them starting around $55 if you look on the net. the e-mu's start at $80 and up and are way faster but also harder to use for monitoring(unless you mic your amp and listen to the play back) I hope this helped some.
