Deconstructing the Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" UPDATE: Clips Deleted and Now Restored

I came across this interesting Web Post about "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones.

http://www.dangerousminds..._gimme_shelter_listen/

Someone broke down the individual tracks of the song - to demonstrate the brilliance of the individual elements in the song.

One thing that strikes me is how much reverb they used on some of the individual parts.

Enjoy!

UPDATE:  12/2/10  The clips have been restored for your listening pleasure. (I am not sure how long they will be up.)

that was the sound of the day....

i mean, early on, they had reverb, but in pop and rock, it was still in it's hey day

there were the huge plate reverbs, and hell, if i was gonna be in a big time studio with a giant plate reverb i'm SURE AS HELL gonna use it!!

I've had those files for some time.

I like the solo vocal track the best esp. where Merry Clayton's voice cracks.

There are isolated tracks from 4 songs on Sgt Pepper floating around. Those are great to hear as well.

ABKCO disagrees with this and has shut down the tracks due to copy right claim issues....

I was hoping to have a listen..... but looks like ...nope , that ain't happening.

    Jeez, so was I.

Couldn't download them from work, and by the time I get home, they're gone.

Don't tell ABKCO  - but the clips have been restored!

I am still trying to figure out the wisdom of ABKCO decision to remove the clips.  The clip are an educational resource that shows the brilliance of the original recording.  People might listen to the individual clips and decide to purchase the song or album.  Is it any wonder why the record industry is in such trouble?

Wow, i hope that's still up when I get home from work tonight.  That's my favourite song.
After 20+ years, that intro riff still sends a chill up my spine (and the sheet music is tattooed around my leg).

there was some speculation somewhere that those files or others by the OP were ripped from MOGG files for guitar hero..

    dunno\

+1 to Merry Claytons vocals , you can even hear people go whoa in the studio when she hits those notes

And I heard the stem by the OP of Lennons bass playing on Helter Skelter...

all I can say is wow ...  no McCartney..

Damn, the vocal clip is dead again!
Although Keiths guitar track is pretty interesting, lots of comps and cuts by the sounds of it.  I guess they were using limited tracks still...
And Charlie's drum track is fantastic.  The guy really IS a breathing metronome!

OMG that passion. How awesome is that. That song has even more meaning to me now. I'm so glad they kept it.

This was a really interesting listen, the amount of bleed on the different tracks is amazing! Listened to individually, the raw tracks sound totally Lo-fi and I guess we wouldn't dream of creating anything that rae today, but put them all together and you;ve got the best stones track ever written.

As Slugbaby points out - you can see/listen where they punch in KR's guitar thanks to 4 track limitations.

Wish there were more of these stems available.
