EMU 1616M Cardbus, moving to Desktop
Hi all, I have the 1616m unit for a laptop PCMCIA cardbus, and now would like to use the unit with a desktop. If I get the newer 1010 PCIe card will it work with my older 1616m unit (from 06/07)? Since I think there used to be PCI cards as well (1010), just wanted know if it's all compatible PCI vs. PCIe? Thanks Kevin

are you asking if the breakout box/cable of the 1616m will work on a 1010 PCIe card?

Yea the new boxes come with PCIe cards, I just wanted to know if the box itself has changed, since I bought it as part of the cardbus package. I want to hopefully find a card somewhere, plug and play, I hope it's an easy transfer to a desktop, but is anything ever easy when working with audio hardware? :)

I have also wondered about just getting an Mbox 2 USB unit, and try protools out. I have Sonar 7 Pro (tempted to want the new upgrade to X1 soon!) I am not sure the Mbox will work with other DAW's? Or is that another unit I am thinking about? That's only good with its own software.... Thanks everyone.

Thanks Kevin There are adapters like this one http://www.tigerdirect.co...1042026&CatId=4268 But I don't know if it would be worth spending money one. Maybe if you find one on e-bay for $10 it would be worth a try. Check e-bay auction 260670369415

Pro Tools 9 will (at least it's supposed to) run on your current interface. You don't have to buy an Mbox.

Thanks Kevin Kevin: The 1010 PCIe works fine with the old 1616m box. However, you don't have to buy a new card from EMU. I bought the PCMCIA to PCI converter posted further down this list and it works great. I found it somewhere for about $30. You just slide your PCMCIA card into it and put the full card into a PCI slot. The only reason you might want to buy a new card is that PCIe gives you higher speed.
