amateur Music Creator 5 owner help please

win xp, using MB audio. I understand that an audio card might be better.
Here goes,
have music creator loaded
two tracks showing
   Insert
   Insert from track template
   Instruments
   Bass
   Base-slap_2

and a pop up comes up and says

"Loading track template would have exceeded Music Creator Limits"
"Loading Failed"

Will you tell me what this pop up  means...and how can I make it work......
Thanks,         slowly figuring it out but still confused..........

Which Music Creator version are you using? What is MB audio?
It looks like MC thinks you've exceeded the allowed number of Track Templates, whatever that is.
Does MC allow Track Templates? I've never heard that one. Or is that the same as Instrument Tracks?

I using Music Creator version 5.0.5.6

And mb is mother board audio which I think I've read somewhere that thats not a good idea, that a music card would be better.  What do I know. Not much about MC.

    Welcome Poolboy1.

If you are trying to insert a midi instrument into a track... might I suggest you do it a different way.

    Click Here  for the right way to insert a synth. Scroll down and read the following and walk through the steps;

Soft Synth set up for TTS & MC4/5 ( in my system)  AND   ADVANCED TTS set up and operation.

This will hopefully help you get an instrument working. Using the INSERT > SOFT SYNTH > CAKEWALK TTS-1 usually gets the tracks installed and linked up automatically. It defaults to the midi omni, which unless you have changed the midi output channel on the keyboard/controller will work from the start. There are other ways to do it but for now, I won't confuse you with TMI.

Of course you mentioned that a dedicated audio card might work better, and it will. It is possible to get synths running in MC5 with a factory card, but the latency (or delay) is usually pretty bad.

    hope this helps.

According to Cakewalk's MC 5 page, Track Templates are included with MC 5. Learned something new.
My older versions of MC don't have that, so I opened SONAR Home Studio 6 and inserted a couple stock Track Templates. Worked fine, but I don't think that feature would be on my 'must have ' list.
You might want to shoot off an email to Cakewalk Support and wait awhile to see what they have to say, but since you're a beginner, I suggest doing it the old fashioned way; Insert>Soft Synths>(name of synth) and setting up your own ins and outs and effects.
And yes, an audio interface with better pre-amps and more efficient audio processing and in/out options will give you better performance and satisfaction in the long run, but it's okay to use the stock sound card while learning MC, as long as the latency doesn't drive you crazy.
You can also try ASIO4All, a free download which has helped lots of users attain decent latency with standard sound cards.

re: track templates - you guys seem to have forgotten the track template problem with MC5.  remember willy had to get them to create new templates (or did it himself or whatever).  they're in the MC5 update.

Thanks for your help.  I guess someday I will understand this software and I thought video software was tough.
I looked at several of your sites and I can say your sounds are terrific, I really doubt I could create on your level.

We're all amateurs, too. At least on the recording side.
Some of us have been paid to play in the past, but so far, no one has bought any of my songs.
It's not really that difficult; Plug in, set inputs, adjust levels, record.

pool boy... it takes time. You should have heard some of the early stuff we all did...then again...maybe not.

the more you learn and apply, the better your music becomes.

it's more about what goes on in your head, your heart, and your fingers, as opposed to the software. I started round 2 of my home recording adventure 3 years ago with MC4 and I still use the same software. The right software tools can help you but it comes back to how you learn to use the tools and talents you have.

Open MC, click Insert at the top then find and click Sound Center?

Right click in the FX bin of an AUDIO track.... choose soft synths> and Cakewalk Sound Center should appear in the drop down box list that opens.

If it doesn't, it isn't in the plug in manager's scan list, and must be added manually.

Check to see if it's installed: C: program files> cakewalk> Sound center  at least that is where mine is located. Yours should be too. If it's not there... search for it.

If you find it in a folder, AND it is NOT showing up in MC, that means that it needs to be added to the plug in manager list of VST's and scanned.

The help section is helpful at times but it is generic to several higher level products as well IIRC.....

First...... be sure sound center is installed.

second....... be sure it is in the plug in manager list

if either of those are not done, it will not show up in the available synths list when you use INSERT SYNTH.

Indeed that is the mystery!  However, working on it continues to help us all..  Poolboy are you going to be using MIDI or mostly audio???  Cuz thats a whole other ball of wax.  I know it seems crazy but it does get easier.  Here's the Cakewalk channel at youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/us...tware?blend=2&ob=1

And there is this other site that I swear by, cuz it's taught me so much:

    http://www.tweakheadz.com/

You may very well be past that stage, but it may help in some aspects.  It's truly a wonderful site for newbies and oldbies alike.  If you poke around enuff Poolboy- you will eventually find your answer.  All of us here will help as much as possible too :-)
