There are so many offers out there at the moment.

This looks good, and seems to be a lot more versatile than NI's session strings. I really like the KHSO strings from Kirk Hunter in the Yellowtools library.

    I really need a new keyboard/controller. So I think I will pass.

If this reaches the target price of $125, it will be a massive bargain!

That's certainly good news... heck, I'm happy at the original price, $149 seems like a gift... but no, I won't complain if it gets lower. Can't wait to see how these work with the Diamond library, among others. Seems like a really well thought out library.

I'm really excited about eventually getting to try this one out as well! It'll be my first Kirk Hunter library (not counting the strings that come with Independence Pro). I've already got EWQLSO Gold Plus, which will probably still be my go to library for film scoring (although you never know). I'm really excited about blending the Kirk Hunter library with modern music, though (Metal and industrial etc).

My "Go To" orchestra right now is KH Diamond. But I use a ton of smaller libraries from developers like Bolder, Cinematique, Cinesamples, Soniccouture, Sonokinetic, Tonehammer, and (believe it or not) my old Ensoniq and Akai libraries as much as I use a single mega-library like Diamond.

I also picked up Session Strings from NI, based on my complete satisfaction with Sax&Brass - alas I'm not quite as happy with Session Strings... at least yet. It takes time to learn to use a new library - another benefit of picking up smaller, specialized libraries!

The Pop/Rock strings strike me as remarkably flexible - I think they'll fit into almost any 'pop' music setting, from stuff like Sir George's arrangements to Trans Siberian sorts of things. The thing I really want to do with them is something along the lines of TSOP - but I won't know if they pull that off till later this month<G>!

I like the fact that Pop/Rock strings has been recorded relatively dry, so it will offer quite a bit of flexibility. I also think, based on the samples, that it sounds surprisingly realistic. Doesn't have the overproduced Hollywood sound of EWQL (which I love for some things). That's one of the reasons I think Pop/Rock strings will complement EWQL so well, as they seem to cover very different areas :)

I was tempted to check out NI Session Strings, but they seemed a bit limited, so I went for The Mouth instead ;)

I jumped in and I'm really excited about these. The demos sound super good. I've wanted some easier to use yet realistic strings and I believe this is gonna be the ticket. I'd picked up NI Session Strings and think it'll be fun and useful, but I don't think it contains solo instruments. The Kirk Hunter Pop/Rock does, and should fill that void plus a lot more. They really do appear to be versatile.

'hope more folks join up so we can get it down to $125.00 (currently at $149, which is already pretty darn sweet). It's great that Kirk extended the payment date to Jan. 15th, though you still have to register by Dec. 22nd.

I also think this Kirk Hunter library will be filling a gap in the market. Based on the demos and information available it seems to be exceptional value for money as well, especially at group buy price!

Just wish we didn't have to wait until Wednesday to be able to download it. Would have been fun to hear what all the participants could do with the library already now! A few more days to go....

There have been some very nice changes introduced to this group buy
    1. The group buy now ends at Janury 15th
    2. The top level 50% discount has been moved from 200 participants down to 150 participants
    3. If you want to download the strings on the 22nd, you can pay and download then, and if the group buy reaches 50%, you will get a refund for the amount you payed too much

Okay, the Group Buy is presently at 130 people, so the current price is $149 USD, which is 40% off normal price. As of today, you can purchase and download Pop / Rock Strings for $149 USD / 40% off and if the GB reaches 150 participants by the end of the GB, you'll be refunded the difference (minus a small PayPal fee, which I am told is under $2 USD, depending on your country).

Kirk Hunter Pop / Rock Strings hit the lowest price, $125 USD (this is library runs with the free KONTAKT Player, so you don't need the full version of KONTAKT to use it). The deal ends January 15, 2011. The price will then be $249 USD.

There are a lot of GB members who are using the library who have posted their opinions at KVR and it's been extremely favorable. You can see for yourself: http://www.kvraudio.com/f...p?t=304789&start=0

Here's a thread that just contains users first impressions of the library: http://www.kvraudio.com/f../viewtopic.php?t=306195

I did jump in on this in the end, using the money I would have spent on Sonar X1.

It sounds pretty good to me and I think it's a lot more versatile than the name suggests. I am hoping to see a few of the tweeks being discussed on KVR implemented.

Kirk Hunter Pop / Rock Strings was just reviewed at ProRec and received 9 out of 10 stars.

We're three days from the end of this Group Buy and it surpassed the highest discount level (50%) long ago, so you can pick it up for $125 USD (downloadable) for the next three days, after that, it will be $249 USD. Here's the link to the KVR thread w/more info and demos -- now on page 57!: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=304789&start=0

Some quotes from the ProRec review of Kirk Hunter Pop / Rock Strings:

"Summary" (unedited):  "Pop Rock Strings is more than just a budget strings library. It's a fully legit contender in the bigger world of string libraries. What you get for the price is second to none."

Excerpts of the review:  "If there was a single word I would use to describe the sound of Pop Rock Strings, it would be "sweet". I'm not talking in a gnarly kind of way, but the sound of Pop Rock Strings is one that is very lush, not overpowering, while still remaining strong. They don't pierce through the mix, but instead fit in well with other instruments...Pop Rock Strings remains one of, if not the most versatile library I've seen. You get what is essentially four different libraries, all meant to sound great together and share the same features."  "If I had to choose a single strings library that offered a good amount of features without breaking the bank, Pop Rock Strings would be at the top of my list. It's a great balance of articulations, control, and excellent sound, and at a price that easily makes this library a no-brainer if you like what you hear.  The sound in Pop Rock Strings is as versatile as they come, and while not perfect in every area, it's about as easy to make a track with this library than any other I've seen. The fact that you don't need any additional software or player is great as well. It's a fully self-contained string library with as much control as many libraries costing many times more...It's a solid library, at a solid price, from a solid developer. Great value for money."  http://prorec.com/index.php/reviews/samples-and-sa mplers/item/94-review-kirk-hunter-pop-rock-strings .html

Some quotes from people in the KVR thread who have begun using Pop / Rock Strings:
    - "...it sounds incredible...Again, thanks Kirk for this amazing deal and product!"
tman2k (Meathook Audio)  "I had some time to play with it this morning. The library is indeed awesome! No question. At this price point it is a no brainer."  - chander
    - "Just got Pop/Rock strings as well. I've had the opportunity to use some larger libraries in the past, and this one I'm connecting with a *whole* lot faster. So many of the larger libraries are a just a clusterf&*$ of articulations. This is nice: straightforward, easy to understand, perfect for rock music."
    - autumndreams
    - "I'm very impressed by the sound of it! It has has a very thick rocksound which will fit right into the tracks.  Really fun to play with the different divisions and articulations. Just load the violins, violas, cellos and basses and you're ready to go."
    - rvh23
    - "...sounds awesome! i love the sound of the bow attack in the smaller ensemble and solo and the variety of articulations overall. a big step up for me thank you Kirk!"  - cisANDderit
    - "I feel like a decadent boutique producer who has a lush, world class string ensemble on call, day or night, to satisfy my self-indulgent musical whims."  - mandolarian
    - "No matter what though, imho, if someone can't hear and figure out these string samples are worth a lot more then $125 then perhaps they need to find a new hobby."  - emperjon
     - "...great sounds!"  - luddite
    - "Sound : AWESOME ! just played few notes and chords with my MIDI-guitar, like a lot what I hear. It makes me want to arrange some old songs... and create new ones ! "  - philwake
     - "Wish everyone a happy 2011. I know for sure those who got into the GB are indeed having a great 2011. I'm digging the strings."  - muddyjoe
"[Kirk Hunter Pop / Rock Strings] really are quite amazing. Lots to learn yet about exploiting these to get realistic parts and arrangements but even just playing little ensembles from the controller and experimenting with the range of articulations is a revelation."  - egbert
    - "The samples sound great! The legato seems very good."  - Baard
