things i LOVE about x1 already WORTHY PRAISE

this is a follow up to my last thread, as it seems everybody is getting mad at me for seeming like im just a d-bag who likes to rant about things for no reason

SNAP SETTINGS

possibly the most intuitive change in sonar. just makes sense to have the different snap lengths available at such short request

NEW CONTROL BAR

never lose your transport buttons again! and with such a simple shortcut to get rid of it! genius!

PRO CHANNEL!

are you kidding me???? this is the best thing that ever happened! it instantly clears up 3 plugins that i would add to EVERY project! nice work!

MULTIDOCK

yes. this was part of my other thread. but honestly this idea is PURE gold! you can have any window available at a WHIM! excellent! (few functions i would like to see added, but you can't win every battle)

SCREENSETS

really wow'd me with this one! you could have all your plugins on one, your mixer on another, your tracks on another! it just doesn't end.. i only have 6 and i honestly cant think of any other arrangements i would need!

NEW CONSOLE

this is great! so straightforward! i do miss having the 2 visible sends at a time (maybe there's some way to change this yet... but it is really nice as it stands... and prochannel... i can't get over it!

now i havent even done any real work on it yet, but im quite excited to!

:edit:

seems like a small change but i really like the "power buttons" on the FX. it makes it so much easier to aim at them and toggle. haha

Personally I would also add the new keyboard shortcuts paradigm to the list. I haven't learned them all by heart yet, but I'm going to. Then I'll be like a kung fu master at my DAW. Fast as lightning!

Also, I really appreciate the increased customizability. I had 8.5 set up to work pretty well with my personal work-flow, but I believe X1 can take it to a whole new level efficiency.

Hey PedalPoint, Welcome to the forums!

I'm going to learn the shortcuts as well. They seem really intuitive now.

Hey PedalPoint, Welcome to the forums!

I'm learning a bunch of them as well - but they're kind of easy.  They are MUCH more logically laid out than before.

The only problem is many are totally different than previous versions and things many of us have gotten well used to over the years are changed now.  So there's some learning curve and adjustment to be had there.

And, it's hard going back and forth between 8.x and X1 in that regard.  But our minds can handle it I hope ;)

To view 2 sends at once just go to: Options Tab on the Console view> Sends> Send Display 2

Nice thoughts OP. I've done a fair bit of moaning about X1 myself, but it's really all temporary stuff, most of which will probably be fixed by the first patch. Although frustrated, my overall feeling is that X1 is going to be really great once they've sorted the teething problems.

On the subject of keyboard shortcuts, and in case anyone missed it, there is a small PDF containing all the new keyboard shortcuts, called SONARX1_Welcome.pdf, and it came as part of the 01_READ_FIRST_SONAR_X1.exe download.

How does Pro Channel compare to a dedicated plugin like say URS Channelstrip Pro?

well, since X1 imports all of your plugins automatically you dont have to compare..    heh
but to be honest, idk if its just me or what but its kinda hard to actually compare things cuz it seems like everything sounds better in X1..

Don't expect to just pop open X1 and go be-boping along like you can in 8.5 though..   for me, its about like going from sonar 7 to protools HD.   you will have more than a few wtf am I doing moments  dont get me wrong, I'm not ****ing..
I think the guys @ protools better bring thier A game or they will find themselves riding the bench.
industry standard could come into question with X1 on the market...    just sayin..

I like the Bass, Cello and Violin!

I've just added a second monitor today and that has enhanced the X1 experience.
I like the way anything dragged over to the second monitor is "auto tabbed" making finding the required screen easy to find.

An afternoons playing around means I feel fairly confident navigating around X1 but it scared the .... out of me when it first loaded it ;).

I have really only played around with the presets, but some are quite nice.  It does give me a definite late 70s console sound, which can be great in the right tune.  The saturation does warm things up.

Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean the multidock is on the second monitor?

I suppose it must be. I've just dived in and messed about with everything so if creating layers of views with tabs to find each one is "Multidock" then that's what is happening on my second monitor.
