MC 5 to Sonar?

Hi- longtime no post...

I've got two computers:
1) a tower-type with MC 5, a decent soundcard, and XP
2) a laptop with faster processing, Superior Drummer, Sonar, the soundcard that came with it. and Win 7.

Is it a problem recording in CW5 and then opening what you did in Sonar (and vice versa)? I'd like to record some things with my XP machine and then got to the laptop.

I'd actually love to do it all on my laptop, but I doubt the sound card will give me that great of results... I'm recording midi AND audio.
midi drums, keys
audio vocals, guitars, bass, triangle ;)

I would jump to the laptop and Sonar mainly to run my midi drum track through Superior drummer and to do any kind of processing with effects, etc.

A hassle for sure... but is there a problem with using both formats?

cakewalk is designed to do that.  the problem comes, however, with opening FX and softsynths which are included with Sonar but not with MC.

however, you can install both MC and Sonar on both computers.  you are allowed to install it in 2 systems as long as you are the only one using it.  in other words, don't install it on a 2nd computer and then give it to your father to use.

if not, then the problem with opening a project on both systems is only because of the plugins and synths that will be missing.

you can still install on both systems even if you use MC on one and sonar on the other.  that way you still get the plugins and synths of BOTH on BOTH machines.  yes, MC will use all plugins from sonar.

older machines should be able to handle cake easily. XP is a good platform.
