8.5.3 producer mediabrowser problem...
Hi people, can you help me out? I have a problem with the mediabrowser. On the left side i see the folders. On the right side should be the files (wav, midi etc.) Should be..... but the right side is blank. No files visible whatever folder i try. I would like to use the mediabrowser to preview drum-midifiles...but i cant see these files. Why?? Whenever i use the button to pop up the windowsbrowser the folders and files are all there, but this way i can't preview them. What could be the problem???

I don't know why the files arn't showing in the media browser. It might be a silly question, but is the folder highlighted? If you clicked the little plus icon to open a folder, if that folder has other folders in it (one for kicks, one for snares, etc...) then you need to highlight that folder. (Sorry, you might know that, but i wanted to say just in case.) Also, if you do find the midi files in the media browser, to preview midi files you need to tell the media browser which synth to use (or in this case, which drum maschine to use - Do you have Session Drummer?) If you have session drummer (or another drum maschine) insert it in to the project, and then select it in the media browser - it's on the very left, under 'preview synths.'

It's an unusual problem. I am unable to reproduce it on my computer other than looking in folders that don't contain audio/midi files. You can't see things like text files, dll files or zip files. I can't find any setting or configuration that won't allow me to see audio/midi files.

Erik70 (BUMP) anybody else got any idea how to solve this? Any luck with this? I have this problem as well but it only happens after the computer comes out of sleep. A fresh boot is fine. I am running XP SP3 and have an ATI Radeon HD 4550. It might be easier to isolate the cause of this problem if we find what our computers have in common.

I had a similar problem a few years ago when the Media Browser was called the Loop Explorer. Maybe it's the same problem. Does your computer have a "C:" drive? Is the "C:" drive where the OS is installed? If the answer to either question is "no," take a look at this thread.

I do usually have a C: drive but it dissapears when I come out of sleep. For some infuriating reason windows assigned the sata drive I installed it on as D:. I have a bug where the C: drive on the IDE controller dont wake up when coming out of sleep. I will look at this when I get home from "work".

You were right Larry I added a C:\ drive and it now works! Here is how I added a C:\ drive: Start->Run (or windows key + r) Type "cmd" without quotes and enter Type "subst c: d:\" where d:\ is your boot drive (any drive will probably do though). This makes c:\ an alias for d:\ or whatever directory you give it. Thanks for helping me to get to the bottom of this. Its been bugging me for months.

dawdle - What version of Windows are you using? Can you do that with XP? I ended up reinstalling the OS... EDIT: Never mind -- I see that you are also on XP. Great solution. Everything I read at the time suggested there was nothing I could do except reinstall Windows, which I did. Microsoft strongly implied that I would be foolish to mess in any way with the system drive...

Hey Larry sorry about the late reply I have been away since Friday. I hope this post helps Erik70 if he still has the problem and Cakewalk fix this bug in future versions (or maybe they have in the new one). If one wanted this to happen on every boot they could save "subst c: d:\" in a batch file and drag that or a link to that into Start->Programs->Startup. It will fail silently if there is already a C:\ drive. Thanks again.
