how do i export audio using the loop markers?

i can't seem to find this in the manual anyplace. what i'd like to be able to do in X1 is to have everything between the loop markers mixed out to a stereo file, if that makes sense? any ideas? did i miss something? usually i have to drag around the grey thing in the timeline to the begin and end points of what i want to mix out but i'm working with loop creation (non musical ambience loops for a videogame i'm working on) so this would be great to be able to do using those loop markers. and i'm sure someone knows how to do it but i can't figure it out.

thanks!

Isn't it the same as before?--just select your tracks and then the segment you want to export in the time line.  It doesn't matter if they're loops - whatever is on the tracks between those two points.

    Hi chawthorne,

You should be able to using the select tool.
You can export a select range of clips or loops by doing the following:

Click n drag the select range in the time ruler or using the select tool to highlight the desired clip/loop range.
CTRL+click the desired tracks. (including softsynth* outputs & midi tracks)
You may also need to set your musical time snap if things aren't on point.

Go to File>Export Audio and choose your export settings (entire mix or tracks etc.) select/deselect fx if necessary and export to the desired directory.

*If you're not using simple instrument tracks and using midi source tracks be sure to highlight the the VSTi's the midi tracks are routed too or they won't export the audio.

This simple procedure will also automatically convert your midi to audio during the export without the need to convert first.

Thanks. i know that stuff already. i'm talking about just loop markers in the track view.

what i want to do is to basically click on the loop marker and have everything and only those things, between those 2 points bounced out, without having to click and drag, seeing as i already know the region i wanted bounced and this is basically doing the work twice. does that make sense?

Hello again- I see.  I don't know of a way to do what you want.  But you can only have one loop section set up at a time - it's not as if you have a lot of different sections all laid out and ready to export.  --I don't quite understand the problem though, because with the grid on, it takes literally a split second to choose in the time line what you want to export.--?

You always need to select your tracks. Exporting needs a timeline selection and a  track selection. So highlight the timeline between the markers and then select the tracks or visa versa.

Or CTRL A to select all tracks and then highlight the timeline between the markers. Its one extra step.

Was it listed as a feature that there will be getting rid of track selecting during exporting??

Thanks guys. I know how to export mixes in Sonar. That's not the issue. I guess what I want is an "export loop" function where it would export the looped area. It seems odd to me that you can set up loop points but then have to click and drag in the timeline again to export it. Ì guess the problem is that Sonar is really meant for music and I`m trying to do some post production sound effects work on it as well. It`s not bad at all. Just different than Nuendo. For music, Sonar is killer.

These sounds I`m doing are ambience backgrounds for a videogame. Post-production type work. Its not music. So a grid won`t work as the loops aren`t bound by measures or beats. They`re bound by wherever the best looping point is and that could be anywhere. So that`s why it`d be cool to be able to just export what`s between the loop points without worrying about going in and doing micro-surgical clicking and dragging in a timeline.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.

And yeah, this track selection thing is a pain. I want ALL the tracks exported. If there were tracks that I DIDN`T want exported, I`d mute them. It seems kinda backwards the way cakewalk has done it.

I see, Chawthorne - Thanks for the greater detail.  I see now you need very accurate zero-crossing points for your game ambience loops.  This isn't of enormous help, but what I would do in that case would involve using a separate sound editor.  I would export the mix of all tracks as one long, continuous track, and then in Sound Forge I would zoom in on the splice points and slice up the 2 track master.

When you add your loop markers cut the section too so you can highlight the section and bounce or export.

This is from the 8.3 manual, hopefully still works in X1. It's about selecting a time range using markers:
    • If looping is enabled, click to the right of the Loop Start marker to select the loop region

In Sonar 8.5 Producer, you can right-click on the timeline, expand the "loop>" submenu and choose "select loop region."  I know this is an old thread but since it's the only place I could find this question when I was searching, I thought I'd post my findings for the benefit of future Googlers.  I had the same intent, looping audio at zero point to eliminate clicks.  When you use the loop feature to audition the selection and make sure there is no click at the seam, you have to make sure the exported region has the exact same bounds or there will likely be a new click in the export.
