How to Lasso Notes in PRV?
Can anyone clue me in as to how I might do this in X1? I can't seem to find a tool that will let me lasso a group of notes in the PRV so that I may move a group os notes (grouped on the fly)... Thanks... Keni

Thanks... Keni The Smart Tool does it (F5 or "Star"). Just left-click and lasso. You can use the Smart Tool for most functions in SONAR across all views.

That's what I thought, but in the PRV it kept inserting notes.... I must have accidentally changed the tool and given up finding the discrete tool... Thanks Brandon... It looks as tho this one is me getting used to all the new shrotcuts and the smart tool.. I'm getting better with it but this one had me baffled for a few minutes here... ;-) Is there no place to find a discrete tool that will do this in the event of difficulty with the smart tool's choice? Inserting a note with the Smart tool should require holding Alt or double-clicking. If it got stuck in that mode, I think that would be a bug or some kind of mouse driver issue.

In 8.5 I could click on a previous note in PRV and the next time I clicked it would create a note that size. With the same tool I could drag the note to any size I needed. Now I have to determine the size of the note I want to create and then click to create it. Then I have to change tools and drag to make it just a bit shorter or longer than the presets if need be. My smart tool must not be cooperating or I have still have a ways to go to get there.

That's probably what I did by habit and somehow got it screwed up... Those two are the opposite for me in everything previous to X1 with the advanced tool selections. What about Snap? I must use that a thousand times/day... Previously it was the N and now it's F12??? I'd like to switch those two around! <sigh>...

Keebo, thats not right, look up tools in the F1 help file and study the graphic for the Smart tool on MIDI data, its context sensitive to the position of the cursor in the MIDI note itself. Left and right ends will give you the drag length options and lower half will give you the drag capability while the top half will give you velocity control. All via the smart tool

Thanks for the reply, TKP. OK, I see that you need to press the ALT key when using the Smart Tool to create the note and then can edit it with the same tool according to where the mouse pointer is relevant to the note. However, the first sentence in my previous post is still valid. I have to select a note duration to change note lengths as stated in the help file: Note: Use the Value control in the Tools module to specify the duration for new note events. In 8.5, clicking on an existing note would change to that duration. That is much quicker when adding notes of different values. I don't see a way that can be done in X1 but am still hopeful.

In 8.5 I could click on a previous note in PRV and the next time I clicked it would create a note that size. This was brought up in another thread, and one of the Bakers chimed in and said he would try to raise the priority on restoring the "remember last note size" functionality.

I am looking to be able to lasso notes in PRV with irregular shapes. Seems I can only lasso rectangles. Is this a functionality added to Platinum? I'm still on X3.

Just perform your normal right click + Hold + Drag to lasso a group of notes. Then: Simply Hold CNTRL and Right click + Hold + Drag that next group of notes. PS- You bumped a 7 year old thread

Also selections are inverted where select boxes overlap. The combination of CTRL+lasso and overlap should be able to create any irregularly shaped selection.

That's what I've been doing (Ctrl-drag) but drawing irregular or polygon selections is such a common gesture in many other applications, and it seems like it would at least have been discussed by the dev team at some point, because it's potential usability value could be huge.

Although I have occasionally wished I could more easily make an irregular selection in the PRV, it doesn't seem to come up on the forum that much (or ever?). If it were to be implemented, I would prefer it used some modifier key so it didn't interfere with the current lasso gesture. I wouldn't want to have to always draw a shape to get a basic rectangular selection that now only requires a simple diagonal sweep.
