MC5 - Audio tracks will not record

I am running MC5 on XP 32bit with a 2.91GHz dual core Processor 3.25GB ram and an Audigy Soundblaster 24bit sound card using 5.1 surround speakers. I can not get audio tracks to record anything or even recognize that there is even an instrument plugged in. the sound of the instrument plays through the speakers. I tried recording with Creative Wave Studio 7 and the trial version of Acid Studio and both recorded perfectly. What am i doing wrong with MC5? (using MME32 Driver). Using WDM/KS driver produses only loud hissing static.

Under Options>Audio, what is listed for Playback and Recording Device?
    What Drivers are selected?
What Driver Mode are you using?
Do the sampling rate and bit depth match for both MC and the Soundblaster? In the past, Soundblasters defaulted to 48,000 Hz @ 16-bit. MC is probably 44,100 Hz @ 16-bit.
Did you select an input in the audio track?
Are you sure it's an audio track and not a MIDI track?
Are you plugging the guitar into the Soundblaster or using a microphone?
    Is it a USB microphone?

that soundblaster  card is very likely the culpret. I can not get my lappy to do anything with it's built in sound card.

Most people can get some sort of reasonable audio recording going with a factory card (even soundblasters and realtecs) but to do serious recording, you will want an external interface.

In the mean time, follow Greg's instructions

another thing - soundblasters say they are 24bit, but they cannot record and simultaneously playback at 24bit.  so in essence they are not being truthful.  set your bit rate to 16.

So true; my old SB Extigy claimed 24-bit perfromance, but only through the S/PDIF input.
You may need to open the SB mixer and set it's inputs to line- or mic-in. And 16-bit.

The guys are right about SB cards being difficult at time, however there are some tricks you can use to get a lot out of them. If the card has 5.1 you can download third party driver that will allow you to turn it into a 6 channel inputs setup. If this interests you let us know and I can ask a friend for some direction on it.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

I apologize in advance if there is a post regarding this question, as I could not find it.  I am trying to overwrite audio to tracks 3 and 4 in my timeline, but am unable to reassign tracks to 3 and 4 from tracks 1 and 2.

    Wel´come to the forum.

It would be better to start a thread of your own instead of jumping into someones thread. You see, the title of this thread has got nothing to do with your question, so it's only by luck that someone notices you.

If I understand your question correctly (you want the audio on tracks 1 and 2 to be copied on tracks 3 and 4 overwriting the existing audio on those receiving tracks?), the function you're after is "Bounce to tracks". You can also simply drag and drop the audio clips.

Somehow I feel I might be misundertanding your question, though.
If by "re-assigning" you mean arming the track, all you need to do is click the "R". (I don't have MC but I suppose it has same icons as SONAR).

Have you spent enough hours with the manual?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
