Tascam DM 24 Control Surface and Sonar 8.5

Help!

I have windows 7 x64 version, sonar 8.5x and a DM24 mixer.  I cannot get the DMCtlSurface to show up as an option on the control surface menu.  I made sure it was in the shared control surface directory and it does not show up when I start Sonar.  I registered the program in windows, but that did not work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,

Nick

Did you open the control surface dialog to select it? It wont just appear.

    Hi John,

Thank you for the response.  Yes, I opened the control surface window and looked for my control surface and it was not there.  I have owned every version of Sonar and up to version 7 I have been able to get this to work.  The main difference is that I switched to windows 7 64 bit version.  I think that screwed everything up.  I know that my midi is configured properly and that it is connected to the system.  However, my control surface no longer appears as a selection in the control surface window.  Any ideas?

It won't show up in the Control Surface choices until you go to the MIDI devices and add it there.

    John / Riojazz,
I got the DM24CtlSurface.dll plugin registered and working in Sonar 8.5 (on 32bit WinXP SP2) and my DM-24 responds nicely to Mutes & Fader movements but MMC does not work.  I added the "MMC" Control Surface (it shows up as "MMC-1" - is that normal?) so it is displayed in my ACT list above my DM24 Control Surface dll.  I followed the directions on the Tascam Resources page exactly but I have had no luck.

Last night, just for kicks, I set my DM24 to generate MTC, then sync'd Sonar to it, and the transport controls worked but playback stuttered quite a bit, and I started to hear artifacts during playback.
I've set it up as follows:

    * Sonar is set to transmit MTC on MTP AV Port 2
    * DM24 clock setting is: MTC
    * MTP AV is the Wordclock Master
    * I followed the Tonart plugin instructions as closely as possible (I am using a 2408 mk2, not a firewire card) & the Word document published by Tascam

Surely getting MMC isn't this difficult to implement.  What am I forgetting to do, here???

    Thank you, guys!

(By the way, I'd be posting this at TascamForums.com but the site has been down for a couple of days)

Yes, I noticed the Tascam User Forum was down.

I do not have the DM-24; I have an FW-1884, so I cannot help you with specifics on your unit.

    Hey

I'm assuming by the DMCTLSurface you're referring to the Tonart created file.

It's a 32 bit dll and as a result doesn't work with the 64 bit version of Sonar.

On my current Windows 7 64bit setup I have Sonar 8 32 bit installed and Sonar 8.5 64 bit installed. It does work in the 32 bit install but not the 64 bit install.

I'm really hoping someone comes up with a way to make the control surface work for Sonar 64. I'd be all over it.

    Hope that helps.

    Charlie

    Charlie,

I uninstalled Sonar 8.03, which was installed in 64-bit mode, on Windows 7 64, and reinstalled Sonar as 32-bit app.  I used regsvr32 to register the DM -24 control surface and got "succeeded" message. Howver, I still cannot get Dm-24 control surface to show up in Sonar.  Did you specifically use the regsvr32 that was in the WoW64 directory or the system32? I did not specify, but I assume I used the version in System32 which might be the problem.  I had this working with no problem in Windows 2000 Pro on an older machine but with same RME HDSP-9652 MIDI interface.  New machine is an i7.  Thanks

P.S. The DM-24 template does work, i.e., faders move when moved in SW or on Dm-24, as well as MMC transport, but I had it working on existing projects not created in the DM-24 template on old machine with W2K, of course, I could see the DM24CtlSurface -1 in the control surface widget.
