work desks with flush mount LCD monitors?

I'd like to buy a pair of LCD monitors and build a new mixing desk.

I want to place the monitors below a glass top so that the desk top is flat and I view the monitor screens by looking downwards.

Does anyone remember seeing any designs of something like this.

I'd like to think about the angles and such with a focus on ease of view ad minimized reflection problems before I start building.

Any tips appreciated.

thanks,
mike

Look at bottom to the left.

That thread I put that crazy paint picture of the desk finally got cha...didn't it? lol

    What I would do...
Pick out or build the desk.
Put a glass insert where I wanted it.
Build the screen(s) support- hinged at top of screen with an adjusting tilt
so I could angle as desired.

I'd deal with reflection issues if any later. I know that doesn't help you though.

Yes, I was just looking at similar things.

I am thinking more along what you suggested.

I think I'll sketch something up like that.

    Thanks.

I don't know, I tried mounting my screens low at first. I wanted to do the same thing you want to do, but after having mine mounted fairly low I started getting a sore back and neck from leaning over too much.

I ended up nixing the desk entirely and mounting the LCD's on the wall with some brackets I fabbed up. I use a wireless mouse on my jeans, and sit in the middle of the room. Sounds odd, but it works great for me.

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

    Thanks Ron,

I am worried about the ergonomics as well.

I mix with all my gear out in the middle of a room so I have no wall to hang a monitor on.

I really like hearing the direct sound when it's not overwhelmed with powerful reflections.

I don't especially mind having my monitors on the desk... but I think I'd enjoy listening even more if they were out of the way.

I've been thinking of some sort of screen top so that it was also not reflective... but probably will just fantasize about that on this iteration of the desk.

I'm about to add a second monitor again. (all my gfx systems are dual screen).

    best regards,
    mike

    Hey Mike,
Since I moved to Canada, I started to put together my studio. It's very humble, but I found that this arrangement is very flexible. I built my own center from left over pieces of plywood I used for another project. I originally set it up as speaker stands, but I added a shelf in the middle at just the right height for the monitor which also holds my preamp. At the foot is a regulated power distribution center with my desktop along with the subwoofer. I bought a laptop cart and a wireless keyboard and mouse. Now all the stationary items are perfectly arranged against the wall and my keyboard and mouse can move anywhere around the room. It's usually positioned in front of the monitor, but I also use this setup as my home entertainment unit. I can watch DVD's and TV from my lounger as well. I have a separate foldaway table for putting my midi keyboard controller on or for any additional items I may need a desk for.  It's really nice when I switch from recording keys to guitar / bass etc as well.  The main idea I was trying to convey was how convenient and work space friendly it is to have wireless mouse and keyboard on a laptop cart.

    Tap, Thanks for the tips.

The thing is, I'm not putting my speakers near any walls and I need lots of workspace to write on paper and space for two big lcd monitors.

I do lot's of gfx work sitting as you decsribe... I like it.

I was at Reuel's art supply store over the weekend and saw this table. Might work for you, might not, might give you some ideas.

as said already your neck is going to suffer if you mount them like a tabletop arcade machine

either properly mount them on the wall OR mount them on a stand behind your mixer etc.. the great thing now it the weight / depth savings with new monitors over crt's.. I had to glue the screws into a desk to support the weight of 2 monitors before

I was going to suggest stands myself.

I am getting ready to mount a third screen on a stand that sits above my right 22" screen and is hooked to my second computer.

Then with a KVM switch, I can access the other computer at will and not sacrifice my dual view on my main computer, plus I can have both on at once-

    Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS Motherboard
    i7 3770k CPU
    32 gigs RAM
    Presonus AudioBox iTwo
Windows 10 64 bit, SONAR PLATINUM 64 bit
Lots of plugins and softsynths and one shot samples, loops
    Gauge ECM-87, MCA SP-1, Alesis AM51
    Presonus Eureka
    Mackie HR824's and matching subwoofer
