Is it possible to upgrade from Project 5.2 to a Sonar Producer edition?

Hi all,

I was gifted Project 5.2 but I'm not familiar with it as I'm used to using Sonar 5.  Does Cakewalk offer upgrades to Project 5.2 owners?  If so, where can I find information re pricing; I've searched on their site to no avail.  Ideally, I'd like to upgrade to a Sonar Producer Edition, 6 or 7.

If anyone can help, please do respond.

D in London
PS: I've yet to register Project 5.2 (completely new and unused)

When they dropped development on P5 I think they had a cross-grade special, but that was a while ago.  I don't think you'll get anything from Cake or is it worth that much on the open market (which is probably why it was gifted).  You can use it or rewired into SONAR.  Although later SONARs have grafted on some of the P5 goodness, it is still worth having if you do any softsynth writing.  Unless you can get to SONAR 8.5, P5 is worth having.

Thanks for responding; I will contact Cakewalk tomorrow to see if they'll offer me an upgrade to something, after all, it is an original copy.

since your in London maybe you can get a "end of stock" v8 from Digital village.. just a thought.. if your near barnet / acton / and clapham ?

you can't get 6 or 7 any more. If you see them for sale, they are probably already registered to someone else.. so Unless they can prove 100% they aren't registered..

£249 IF you register p5.. thats for sonar x-1 producer though

http://www.store.cakewalk...ductid=10-CXSP1.00-20E

studio upgrade is less £149

I'd ring up you local DV.. see if they can do you a decent deal with it being so near xmas though :)

ring em up  , see what they say.. ya never know

Thanks for responding.  I had to get Cakewalk's number off the forum as their toll free number didn't work!  Will let you all know how I get on.  I just need Sonar for recording, editing, effecting and processing vocals and I believe one of the previous (and cheaper) versions can do the job just as good as Cakewalk's most recent release, right?

I used SONAR for years w/ P5 for mixing etc. - things it does well.  P5 is great for creation and once I got the song going I could rewire it directly to SONAR.  I used Sonar Home Studio for a while - a sub $100 program that worked fine.  The equivalant t is now part of the SONAR x1 family, I think.
